Chassis:
Chassis SL71/17 was the second Mk2 T70 built and was sold new to John Mecom for John Surtees' 1966 Can-Am assault. Surtees placed the car on the pole for the first ever Can-Am race and went on to win the inaugural event. In the next race, Surtees was forced to retire after being hit by Parnelli Jones. He then switched to a much newer car for the rest of his successful Can-Am campaign. The T70 remained in the United States and today is owned by a great Lola enthusiast. He has restored the car to its Mont Tremblant winning configuration. In 2010 he brought the ex-Surtees T70 to the Monterey Motorsports Reunion where he reenacted the first row of the grid with the ex-Gurney T70 that he also owns.
