Chassis: SL71/43
After two rounds of the 1966 Can-Am Challenge Cup in an earlier example, John Surtees switched to this brand new chassis. He won two of the remaining four races, which was sufficient to become the first ever Can-Am champion. In 1967, Surtees reverted back to SL71/43 after struggling with the latest T70 version and duly won another Can-Am race. After a complete rebuilt the car was sold to a privateer, who campaigned the car as late as 1971. Since then it has been used on the road for several years and at one point sported a Mk3B Coupe body. Restored to its original glory, the ex-Surtees Lola is seen here at the 2009 and 2010 Goodwood Revival. At the 2010 edition, Surtees' highly impressive career was celebrated.
