Chassis:
While the factory had fitted 2.5 litre to two earlier chassis, chassis 2431 was the first all-new 250S. It was sold to Dick Hall (Jim's brother) and Carroll Shelby. The car was subsequently raced quite successfully by Jim Hall and Shelby together with the sister chassis 2432. It was raced for two more seasons and with considerable success by Bobby Aylard. After he replaced the car with a 'Birdcage,' chassis 2431 was stored in a barn. It eventually ended up in the famous German 'Rosso Bianco' Collection. In 2005 the museum was shut down and the new owner commissioned a restoration. The fabulous result was seen at the 2008 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este where the car is pictured. The extremely rare Maserati will be offered in RM Auctions' Leggenda e Passione sale on May 17th. The very original car is expected to sell for $2 - 2.3 million.
