Chassis:
Completed early in 1967, chassis 103 was the last Eagle Mark 1 constructed in aluminium. It made its debut in the Race of the Champions in the hands of Richie Ginther, finishing 10th and well behind Gurney in the victorious sister car. Chassis 103 was only raced twice more that year with Gurney scoring an impressive third during the Canadian Grand Prix at its final outing. After the Formula 1 program was cancelled, this Eagle was sold to noted racer Danny Ongais. He had intended to convert the car to Formula A specification but fortunately these modifications were never made. In 1974, Ongais exchanged the Eagle for a Lola T300 Formula 5000 car with Chuck Jones. It was then sold to Mark Leonard in 1981, who in turn sold it to Dick Barbour in 1985. His ownership was brief as it passed to Jeffrey Keiner during that same year. He had the car prepared for historic racing by All American Racers and would retain the car through to 1998. British historic racer Ben Liebert was the next custodian and he campaigned the car in prominent events like the Monaco Historic Grand Prix and Goodwood Festival of Speed. In 2002, it was auctioned by Christie's for what was then an impressive $700,000. It subsequently joined a prominent Washington state collection where it would remain for the next two decades. In 2026, it was entrusted to RM Sotheby’s for the September Sealed auction with a $7 - $9 million estimate.
