Chassis:
One of the works racers for the 1953 season, chassis 0322AM was first seen at Le Mans with a regular Pinin Farina Berlinetta body, still powered by the slightly smaller 4.1 litre or '340' engine. At its second outing 0322AM sported a revised 'low-nose' body and a Tipo 102 375 engine. Success was had in the Spa 24 Hours race, where Farina and Hawthorn secured an overall victory. At the end of the season it was entered together with the similar 0320AM in the Carrera PanAmericana race in the 'Ricci colours'. The two cars finished fourth and sixth respectively.
Following its South American sojourn, it was sold through American importer Luigi Chinetti to Marty Christensen. He had the car raced by Dick Irish and also took turns behind the wheel himself. In 1956, he donated the car to the University of Wisconsin Engineering department. By the end of the 1960s, the rare Ferrari was in derelict condition and boasted an American V8 engine. Passing through various hands, it was eventually sold to Albert Obrist in Switzerland, who had the car completely restored by Fantuzzi during the 1980s.
Soon after the complete Obrist Collection was acquired by Bernie Ecclestone, chassis 0322AM returned to the United States, where it joined the Jon & Mary Shirley stable in 1998. They extensively used the car before entrusting it to Butch Denison for another ground-up restoration. The spectacular result was awarded with a Best in Class award at Pebble Beach and Best of Show at the Cavallino Classic. Having shown the car at every possible event in the United States, Shirley opted to offer it in RM Auctions' Leggenda e Passione sale at Maranello in the spring of 2007. Here it passed into Argentinean hands for the princely sum of EUR 4.3 million.
