Chassis:
Chassis 688 is the sixth and final brand new XJR-9 built by TWR in 1988. It replaced the Le Mans winner in the second half of the season. Regular drivers in 1988 were Johnny Dumfries and Jan Lammers and they scored a second and third and Spa and Brno respectively. The following season Andy Wallace and John Nielsen piloted the car but could do no better than fifth. After a big accident at Brands Hatch mid-season, 688 was retired. For many years it was part of the TWR museum collection until it was sold after the company's bankruptcy. Returned to full running order, it was briefly raced in historic events during the mid-2000s. It eventually returned to the tracks in 2022 when its new owner raced it at the Le Mans Classic.
