Chassis:
Completed in February of 1961, this 718 RS 61 was delivered new to Austrian gentleman racer Hermann Müller. He fielded the car in a large number of hill-climb events in Europe through to the end of 1963. Chassis 718-076 was then acquired by South African Dr. Dawie S. Gous. He used the car to win the 1964 South Afrian Sports Car Championship. For the next season, Grous stepped up to an Elva and the Porsche passed to Clive van Buuren, who continued to race the car in contemporary events until 1967. It almost seemlessly moved into historic racing, first in South Africa and then in the United States. Among the subsequent owners were not Porsche collectors Jeffrey Keiner, A. Dano Davis and Stanley Gold. The latter raced the car extensively on both sides of the Atlantic before selling it to another long-term owner in 2013. From his collection, it was consigned to the 2024 Gooding Amelia Island Auctions.
