Chassis:
Sold new to British gentleman racer David Morrison, this is the penultimate McLaren F1 GTR built. It was raced by Morrison’s Parabolica Motorsport team, debuting in the first round of the 1997 British GT Championship at Silvertone. It was driven to victory by Gary Ayles and Chris Goodwin, who would later become McLaren Automotive’s chief test driver. Re-finished in Team Lark McLaren colours, it was raced in the Silverstone round of the FIA GT Championship and at Le Mans. Returned to Parabolica Motorsport colours, it was raced in the remaining rounds of the FIA GT Championship with limited success. Not raced again by Parabolica after the end of the 1997, the car was sold by Morrison to James Munroe in the summer of 1998. Now painted orange, it was raced at a few rounds of the 1999 British GT Championship by Munroe and Goodwin. Munroe ran foul of the law halfway through the season, bringing an early end to the racing career of 27R. Sold at a Brooks auction in 2000, the car was eventually returned to the Parabolica Motorsport colours. While owned by an American collector, it was reunited with Gary Ayles at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Early in 2026, chassis 27R was back in its Le Mans colours and consigned to RM Sotheby’s for a ‘Sealed’ auction with a $18 - $21 million estimate.
