The original Tipo 151/3 (chassis 151.002) was crashed fatally by Lloyd 'Lucky' Casner and subsequently scrapped. The final Maserati sports racer constructed nevertheless captured the fascination of German collector Peter Kaus and in 1980 he was able to borrow the car's original body bucks. He used these to construct a new body, which he fitted on a chassis built in Germany. He also tracked down a Tipo 54 V8 engine to complete the project. For many years the Tipo 151/3 replica was displayed in the fabulous Rosso Bianco museum alongside the sole surviving original Tipo 151. In 2006, it was offered in Bonhams' Gstaad sale and found a new owner for an impressive CHF 250,000.
