Chassis:
This was the first ever in a long line of March GTP cars that dominated IMSA GTP in the early 1980s. Fitted with a Chevrolet V8 engine, it was campaigned by Bob Garretson's team in 1982. At its debut, that year's Daytona 24 Hours, Bobby Rahal, Jim Trueman and Bruce Canepa placed the car on pole but eventually had to retire with gearbox issues. The car was on pole again for the Sebring 12 Hours but in the end had to settle for second. The car was retired at the end of the year but returned to racing during the 1985 season when it was entered by the current owner for several races, including the Daytona 24 Hours. A gearbox problem once again ended the effort early. Since then the car has been meticulously restored to its debut livery. It is seen here during the 2011 McCall Motorworks Revival and The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering a few days later.
