Chassis:
The first P160 built, chassis 01 served the BRM works team for three seasons. It was used in the first half of 1971 by Pedro Rodriguez and for the remainder of the year by Peter Gethin. He used it to score the legendary victory in the Italian Grand Prix at record speed with the 2nd through 5th place cars finishing less than a second behind. In 1972 chassis P160/01 was allocated to new signing Jean-Pierre Beltoise, who drove the car to BRM's final Grand Prix victory. This P160 was finally retired after a heavy crash during the 1973 British Grand Prix.
The successful BRM Formula 1 racer has since been rebuilt to its 1971 configuration complete with the attractive Yardley livery. In recent years the car has been actively campaigned by its subsequent owners. It is seen here at various events, including the 2010 Goodwood Revival where BRM was the featured marque. For this special occasion, Peter Gethin was reunited with his Italian Grand Prix winning machine and drove the car on all three days. This was probably one of his final public appearances as he died little over a year later, aged 71, after a long illness.
