Chassis:
Coachbuilder Brewster of New York merged in 1926 with Rolls Royce of America to exclusively supply for the Springfield cars. They had a number of relatively standard bodies available with evocative names like 'Pall Mall' or the 'Huntingdon'. One of the most famous of these is the featured 'Playboy' Roadster; this was long before the magazine of the same name was ever published. When production ceased in Springfield in 1931, over 1240 Phantoms had rolled off the American production line.
The pictured example is on of 28 Playboy Roadsters and one of the very last produced. Not delivered until 1932, it spent most of its many years in the United States until it was recently imported to Switzerland. A five year restoration was completed with a 'debut' in the 2006 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este where it is seen here.
