Chassis:
Featured is a Castagna bodied 'SS', which was first delivered to the legendary American show man 'Roxy' Rothafel in 1929. He did not approve of the finished product and had it send back to Milanese workshop. Revisions include the raked front windshield and a new roof mechanism. The end result was stunning and the pride of Rothafel until he died in 1936. After his death the Castagna SS disappeared for over three decades and when it surfaced again it was not in the best of shapes.
After 6000 man hours were put in by master restorer Jurgen Swoboda, Rothafel's SS was returned to its former glory. It is pictured here at the 2004 edition of Bonham's annual Olympia Auction in London. It exchanged hands at well over 1,100,000 Pounds.
