Chassis:
One of six Ferrari 342 Americas built and the third of three bodied by Pinin Farina with a coupe body, chassis 0246AL starred at the coach builder's 1953 Geneva Motor Show stand. It was subsequently sold to an American enthusiast but remained in Italy and later in the year Pinin Farina replaced the wrap-around rear window with more conventional square glass. Early in 1954 the exotic Ferrari was sold to a new American owner, who displayed the 342 America at the Wilmot Hills concours d'elegance. Here it received the award for best sports car.
In 1955, a William R. Peters acquired the car and he retained it until the late 1980s. Since then chassis 0246AL spent over a decade in Belgium before it returned to the United States in 2004. In the following years the 342 America was shown at various events by subsequent owners. One of the most recent of these outings was at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The current owner bought the car afterwards and decided to bring it up to an even higher standard. Soon after, however, he decided to part with the car and it will be offered by RM Auctions in their January 2011 Scottsdale sale with a pre-sale estimate of $800,000 - $1,000,000.
