Sold new to Ettore Bianco, this 4CS 1100 was built as a racing car. It was immediately successful, scoring a class victory in the 1935 Mille Miglia. Following another class win in the Mille Miglia, it was sold to Ignazio Radice Fosatti. He was unfortunately involved in a fatal accident later in the year. The remains were bought by Luigi Villoresi and Count Giovanni Lurani, who had the car completely rebuilt and updated with independent front suspension. Lurani subsequently shared chassis 1126 on the Mille Miglia.

The modified 4CS 1100 then went on a trip around the world and was ended up in Singapore before the War. The owner was captured and killed by the Japanese, who also briefly confiscated the car. Upon recovery, the car was buried to prevent it from being taken again. After the War it was briefly raced with a SS 100 engine. Dismantled, the extensively campaigned Maserati was acquired by the current, British owner's father in 1969. He had the car fully restored to its 1938 specification. Since the work was completed in 1985 the car has been used on the road and also regularly campaigned in classic events in England.
