 a perfect example

this car/truck/whatever the hell it is is a perfect example of what happens when you combine car designers, a big budget, and a shitload of crack. i applaud chevy for trying to make a new el camino, but it just doesnt look cool at all. just like the pt cruiser, people will have a cool vehicle(i say vehicle cause i cant tell whether its a truck or car) then a couple years down the road people will be laughed at for having one. the lack of power this thing has adds to the overall disappointment. i personally wouldnt drive it and give it 2 thumbs down.

the ssr looks retro cool not retro ugly (hint hint pt cruiser) and the fact that its a convertible adds to that. however, to make it better, chevy should have gone a little lighter on the heavy metal and given the ssr the 345-hp engine found in the silverado ss. great car, though

Well, this is quite an example of an overweight, overpriced, and underpowered car, and its ugly, this car won't last long. I remember reading somewhere, that someone said this would do better than the Thunderbird, oh but look what they have coming to them, who would pay $42,000 for this? You may as well buy a vette of a Z4, neither of which I like.

"The appeal of these ""retro"" vehicles is limited. In 3-5 years people will look at them with amusement. Like any fashion they will pass. Bad luck if you bought on or a PT Cruiser and want to trade it in. No resale value. If you want an old style car, buy an old car. Its like the Honda motorcylces they make to look like Harleys. Buy a Harley."

This thing ROCKS!!! Its retro its stylin' and it aint white trash like the camaro has been for 30 years. Camero's were great in their origional incarnation but the 70's killed them and they never found their way back into the lime light. Like the Pt cruiser, this thing is gonna fly off the shelves and you are gonna see them on every street corner in 5 years. The retractable hard top is sublime and the fact the it actually has a truck bed is the bomb. Trucks are it or have you not noticed with every car manufacturer is dropping cars like mad and replacing them with trucks or suv's or sut's. Heck even Cadillac has an SUV and an SUT. If Chevy makes enough of them they will be the biggest hit sence the PT. BTW GM's australian division has been making an El Camino like car for years for the downunder. It has a Monte Carlo front on it and a truck back so you never know when the El Camino will come back.

I agree that the Camaro should've been kept, I also agree that a pickup and a sportscar crossover is not necessarily an SSR, but this is not that bad. I mean, the design is clear, ok it could've been sleeker, but it's not bad. In my opinion. If Chevy built a pickup from a Camaro...would it be better?! We'll never know probably. So give SSR a chance, and we'll see what happens after 5 years. The Camaro might reappear on the line with a new pick-up called El Camino. What do you know....The history repeated itself once...

too bad they had to take out the camaro line for gm to introduce this wierd concept , i think they will see the error of thier ways and kill this ssr our of production in less then 5 years

If GM decides to offer only two seats they must be able to come up with a nicer package than this one, or are there some dickey seats hidden in the trunk.
 Retro is for romantics

"Lets face it, when some historian in the future, makes their studies in automobile design, will find that this car was a great exponent of the ""retro fever of the early days of the XXI century"", and probably will say: This machine was for romantics and truck lovers"""

Not a fan of the design, but the engine is very attractive. It shows that Chevy can make an ugly car but still have Chevy power. If you like the El Camino then you must like this one.
