 Honda NSX-R Performance

I think you're mistaken, georgev. The 280km/h top speed is actually an official information. The NSX has a body design with low drag. It's not surprising that it could go 280km/h with 280bhp. The early version 350Z, with 280bhp, can also do 265km/h without an aerodynamically designed body and a race tuned engine. Moreover, according to most of the famous tuning companies, they claimed that the NSX-R's engine will do 320BHP without the 280BHP governer, not as much as 370BHP. It's weird to have an NA 3.2L engine putting out so much power at only 8300rpm. Further more, 280BHP means the production model will be governed to 280BHP. Honda could'nt 'say' they've got only 280 but tweaking the car secretly. It's illegal.
 A True Sports Car

This is what I call a sports car, not those other cars with a bunch of power that can't even corner. This car is amazing on the track, especially in technical courses, this car can match the Murcielago, as in one of those 'Best Motoring' videos I seen in around 2002. I think Honda's V-TEC is amazing. There's rumors that V-TEC is like a metal box linked to the engine but cannot be opened. Anyway, this car really beats the hell out of European manufacturers, it's such a painful defeat. If Honda can ever get pass the 280-horses limits, it'll sure be an worthy opponent for European manufacturers such as Ferrari, TVR, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, etc. This NSX-R is the fastest under 300-horses car, which will go down in history as a glory.
 honda and turbos

guys, stop it with turbos will you. there's a reason that honda don't use turbos and that is because they don't need to. their aim is not to make the most powerful car but to make the best racing ar for the road. for that reason they rely on their own tried and tested method of revs, stupidly high revs and their indestructible v-tec engines. for those of you that don't know, this car was tuned/setup with the aid of a certain ayrton senna, who was quite simply the best driver, ever. this car isn't about brute force, it is a symbol of driver skill and engineering marvel. the fact that it is more than ten years old and still able to spank new so-called performance cars is a testiment to honda's engineering.

guys if you had looked deeply into the subject you'd know. i've seen some images published by car magazine.those guys were invited to japan to test this baby.so they took it a dyno which showed about 370bhp but i don't remember the revs at which this output comes from the engine. the fact that Honda announces only 280bhp is because the japanese laws forbid higher horsepower cars to be made for the japanese market and since this is not exported anywhere else by Honda they had no other choice. i've seen a video of Jenson Button driving this thing at a racetrack in Takasu and it was going about 280km/h which obviously can't be achieved with only 280bhp.
 Electric engine?

I read that there will indeed soon (read soon as 2 to 4 years) be a replacement for the NSX. I also read that Honda are taking into consideration the possibility of making it a hybrid. Thay say that by supplementing the NSX's rather underpowered engine (for its class) with an electrical one can produce upwards of 400 hp, and still make mother earth smile. I don't know how good of an idea that really is. Hybrids have no future: they carry two engine, an unnecessary load. Still, the idea is tempting.
Time for a replacement, not a facelift

I have to agree with one of the other posters here and say that Honda should've spent their time, money and effort on a true second generation NSX, not just a rehash on an 11 year old car. Granted, the handling prowess, user-friendliness and reliability of the NSX are all still VERY impressive, but it's chief opponents, the Ferrari 348 and Porsche 911, have been significantly updated and/or replaced TWICE in the last 11 years. Honda should take to the Japanese gentlemans agreement on power output with the proverbial axe and give the next NSX an engine that will give Ferrari's V8 and Porsche's flat six something to think about in the power and torque stakes - not just in power and torque per litre but also outright power. They also need to ensure that the NSX maintains the tradition of providing user-friendly, class-leading handling.
Agreed, this chassis could use more power...

... the main reason this car has no more than 280hp is because of the self-imposed power ceiling of Japanese car manufacturers for the domestic market. It would not be an incredibly difficult task to fit a more powerful engine into this chassis and Honda do have F1 experience in terms of engine building. I'm confident that Honda could quite easily build a 400hp engine for this chassis, perhaps even a V10? Whilst Honda could sell cars with higher power outputs in other markets they probably would not make enough money to recoup the development costs. It's up to the aftermarket (as is the case with almost all Japanese cars) to unlock the true potential in these cars.
 more displacement....

c'mon guys, we know this is extra weight but it can serioulsy help out with the wimpy torque even at the sky high revs. 3.2 liters with natural aspiration isn't enough if have to pay 100 grand for it. maybe a 3.5 liter 6 or a 4 liter V8! The V8 may be a little out of the question, but a simple displacement boost would be a real help to the torque if not the horsepower. You can expect better launches at the quarter mile at least. A V8 will put this bad boy into the musclecar category with probably something in the range of 375 horsepower and MATCHING torque!

in terms of handling and everything, this car is WAY better than s2000. its not just more luxurious and spacey, its faster too, its even made out of carbon fiber for you. just go to the site http://world.honda.com/NSX/ before you judge it.. its an awesome care, and plus.. if you had the money to i rather get this than s2000 anyday , anytime, anywhere (unless i dont have the parking space, and i loose about 50 lbs)
