I hear that the Esprit will be going out of production for ever quite soon. what a sad day that will be. Esprits have always epitomised the supercar image and nothing on the road quite matches its impressive stance. Farewell to a much loved classic.

I suppose you just have to make the sacrifice when you do have to drive in lots of traffic in any sports car, and some are better at it than others. The more track developed the car the worse it is. Here in britain the traffic is bloody awfull so buying something like an esprit as an only car is out of the question. More acceptable in something like a mitsubishi evo or an M3(if you also want to look like a hairdresser!). About driving round the nurburgring-please make sure you do it at some point in your life, trust me there is no better way to test man and machine if your used to track days, and the gt3 is one of many cars that passes that test.
Buy a 4 only if you can't hack an 8

Like I said, I've driven both. The lag from the high boost 2.2 liter 4 is severe, as compared with modern low inertia twin-turbos. The 300 made about 137 hp/L from a single turbo, it'd be surprising to not have lag. For the guy who said just go quickly and not complain: have you owned a high performance stick shift car? I've owned several and I've had to drive all of them in traffic some of the time. For the other guy: since when will someone with an exotic espouse their car's shortcomings? I shopped for an Esprit because of its beauty, but mechanically they no longer compare. Finally, I probably won't have the opportunity to take a GT3 (N/A in US anyway) to the Nurburing, since I live in southern California. But I have taken my 348ts and more recently my 355 F1 spider to Willow springs and run with various Esprits, including the V8's. I don't think I'd change my mind.

The 4 cylinder is the only one to get. The small engine follows a tradition of lotus and has more character that the quite bland 8.(why do people say the 4's sound crap-they sound great-purpousefull,not all fancy) Turbo lag is not a problem when going quickley(which is the idea!). Why buy one to drive round town in and complain about lag? Take a gt3 to the 'ring' and you would change your mind.
 Get the 4 cylinder...

You say the 4 cylinder ones have lots of turbo lag? Well that's the first I ever heard anybody complain about the lag on the 4 cylinder Esprits.I heard from S4 and S4S owners that their cars are very fast and they said nothing about lagging problems so I don't know. But any ways I would get a 4 cylinder Esprit lag or no lag it's better than no Esprit.Besides if there's lack of torque or whatever just keep the rpm s higher no biggie.
 Don't get the 4 cylinder

I've driven both 4 and 8 cylinder Esprits. Matter of fact, the earlier model was the car used in Pretty Woman. They look identical to most eyes, but they drive quite differently. All the ergonomic failings apply to both, but the 4 cylinder car is simply a pain to drive. Unacceptable turbo lag means there is little power down low, where we do most of our drivings. If you must have a Lotus, get the V8.
Why does this 1972 design look so old ?

Umm, because it is. Some of you may be happy to know that the Esprit has had a shelf life stamped on it. It will be produced no more at the end of this year (2003). I weep into my coffee. This is a fantasticly underrated car, and I wanted one when I was 12. Heck, I'm mid twenties and I still want one . . . though perhaps the 4 cyclinder ...
 do not worry to much!!!

There is going to be a brand new design by 2004 for the esprit. have you all seen the Lotus M250/260, the next esprit is going to looks very much like that but i am quite sad though! No i am really sad actually. To me this car is a real stunner. From every frekin angle the car looks damn beautiful! The esprit had a good life though and not everyone or everything lives forever so, fare well esprit and HELLO the new esprit!!
Why can't Lotus come up with a better design.

This car's design is getting so out dated it's starting to make me mad. It's also unfortunate that the only noticable change they made is the circular lights in the rear. I wish they could think of something original. Whoever design these things definatly needs to think of something else.
 beautiful!!!!!

This is i bet the nicest looking lotus or maybe car ever! It's lines are all old school like the old esprits. This is my favourite lotus, no doubt.
 Just plain old

When I was shopping to replace my 348, I drove a 25th anniversary that looks exactly like your featured car. Yes it is fast and hoo-boy beautiful, but in all other respects it is an archaic car. I've driven many exotics, and I can honestly say that there are few that are as difficult to drive as this one. Other than a Lamborghini, I know of no other car that has such a poor driving position and visibility. It was fun driving it for about 5 minutes, then I wanted to return the car. I think many owners agree, which is why Esprits have terrible resale value.
