so far i have only seen the maybach only once here on the road in dubai.it was only for a few seconds so i couldnt tell if it was the 57 or 62here it costs 1,200,000 dirhams. thats almost 3 times the price of an s class [400k dhs].its a gr8 car.its lights are bending downwards & not bulging out like the rover 75. i would love to own it 1 day. it'll have a tough competition with the Rolls Royce Phantom |

I still had a doubt about Maybach styling so ...Well I just happend to browse a car magazine of december '97 and there I found the first pictures of the Maybach prototype displaied at Tokyo motor show 1997. At the time the Rover 75 wasn't on the market yet ...I can't tell if it has already been shown to the public though. Anyway at this point I think it's more realistic to say that Rover copied, although I think the similarities between the 2 cars are more likely to be a coincidence. And about that resemblance with S class Mercedes I discussed before ...well I guess the S is infact an offspring of the Maybach design (since the new S didn't exist yet in '97) and not the contrary as I previously wrote. But the A6 was already on sale so about the bumpers... |

Actually if you look carefully there is a little resemblance with the back portion of Rover 75. Maybach and Rover 75 rear doors and trunk taper in a similar way (although in the 75 it's more marked, something that makes the car look a little strange ...infact I prefer the estate version of the 75), and there is also that chromed arched trim that reminds the one on the 75 ...but in the latter it's a havier piece of metal, on the Maybach it's thinner. I can also see a little bit of Audi A6 in the lower part of the bumpers (side view)and I think this is more evident than the similarities with the 75. Anyway overall the car looks a lot like the S series Mercedes (same manufacturer ...and maybe designers) specially form the front grille to the front doors. |

I don't see the link between this Maybach 57 and the Rover 75. Then again, I don't see the link between the 75 and the classic 75 P4, which was supposedly the inspiration for the former. |

The designers of the Rover 75 can be proud that Mercedes has taken the trouble of copying the lines of this car exactly (although blown up a little bit) to present the world with the Maybach. |
