| Non-traditional (SUV) and the traditional Porsche |

"I'm not a proponent of the SUV concept for Porsche, but I am an advocate of Porsche staying in business. I read many the press releases that came from the A.G. as the Cayenne was being developed, and I am convinced that the Cayenne was an attempt to make up for a merket decline of almost 30 percent. Their latest releases on the company's website bear that out. Cayenne absorbed all but about three percent of their losses. Should they be congratulated? Jury's out on that. I don't think I would argue against world rallye racing as a viable venue for a ""pure sports SUVs."" Look at the ""speed"" networks and the things they cover. The drivers are young, the cars are agile and the terrain varies from turn to turn. I enjoy watching it. But where are Porsche, VW and the Italians? I would never, in a million years, take either of my old 928s out on those courses -- partially because they'd be in the shop for months between ventures -- but I would certainly take my 356. That's what it was made for, I think. I'd call that ""driving in its purest form,"" e.g., man and machine vs. the elements. Taking that into account, I think it would be fun to watch a German SUV whip up on the Subarus and the Citroens for a change (even if Cayenne is a platform I don't like looking at). If I correctly recall, Dr. Porsche was a man intrinsically motivated by driving in its purist form. It may well be that this new, controversial ""kubelwagen"" is able to interest a market share which has begun to disdain Carerras as too maintenance-intensive to enjoy and too ordinary in appearance. I don't like looking at them. I don't like the lines. I do like the engineering, based solely on what I've been able to read, but its plumbing looks complicated for something you'd expect to work every time you put the key in. Time will tell on that, and so would some racing history. Personally, I like the 50s- and 60s-era motorcars they built much better than these modern ones. But, as someone who posted before me said, if it keeps one little German concern on the global sports-car map, good for them. And good for me." |

Well guys, you conservatory fools, the cayenne was a way for porsche not to go out of business first, second, it's great, they could have really screwed this SUV thing up but they didn't, a cayenne Turbo can wipe out a subaru WRX on a 0-60 and a quarter mile, plus it drives like a porsche. I have connections in Weissach and Leipzig telling they're gonna use the V8 they developped for the Cayenne for a sporty four or two door estate car (nicer way to say station wagon). Looking forward to they dismay comments following this one. |
| A Great and Fast SUV car! |

It has just all what a man want's.It is very fast, strong, luxurius, with lot's of space in it and decpide all this,it's abilities on Off Road drivings are better than in the Range Rover!!!!!!!!!! |
| The thing that should not be. |

As my title says,I wish this thing didn't exist, not that it's a bad SUV,but that's just it,it's a SUV and an SUV has no business wearing a Porsche badge. What the freak were Porsche thinking when they decided to create this Monstrosity?I'm just hoping nobody buys it,or it sells so poorly that Porsche decides to can it and hopefully everybody will just forget about this shame to Porsche's name. |
| Eh... |

Interesting concept.. if I won a Cayenne, I might keep it, I might not. It's just.. an interesting automobile. I can't say I would go out and buy it (I would much rather get a 996 Carrera), but it just (damn) interesting. |
| Quiet Alfa75... |

Don't give Ferrari Any ideas, the way that Fiat auto, Parent company to the Prancing Horse, may just compromise on the brand to save their ailing butts. So keep it quiet and then Ferrari won't waste our time with somethign as useless as a fast Ferrari Pickup truck. |
| Why ? |
| Alfa75TS 4-12-2002 |
That's all I have to say: why ? What's next, Ferrari builds a pickup ? |
| i bet none of you all are as lucky as me!!!!! |

it really has a very confortable and beautiful interior. But it looks darn ugly(exterior). I have always loved porsches. I always prefer Porsches to Ferraris and I have the chance of seeing porsches everyday. There is a service centre about 350m from my house which services porsches and more porsches. There are loads of 930s, 964s, 993s, 914s and sometimes 968s and 928s and quite recently I saw a few boxters and a few RUFs too. About once every 2 days I go into the service centre to just look at the porsches and nothing else. you cannot sit in the porsches because they are owned by people but you can touch them on the outside. these beauties may be old but they still look damn and i mean damn nice but i still do not understand how did they make the cayenne look like that. you just cannot take a 996 shape change it a little bit and stick it to a four door which has a ground clearance of about 40cm(which is freaking high for a porsche)> but to me, porsche is still the ultimate sports car maker!!!!!! |
| I Find it sad...... |
| IBrake4Rainbows 4-12-2002 |
It's actually really hard to tell if porsche actually intended to produce something like this, or maybe tried to make something else and failed miserably, either way, the results are dire... |
| its not the photo's |
| henk4 4-12-2002 |
No it is not the photo's, this car is a mess, I saw it last week at the Essen Motorshow. Next to it was the VW Tuareg, which at least has the advantage of a proper engine (V10 diesel). The future will tell whether the Porsche badge will win over the humble VW background (although historically the same). The world has gone a long way if a company needs lorries to finance racing ventures. |
| is it just the photos? |
| sindbad 4-12-2002 |
I genuinely like Porsches, I always did. I'm quite sure too that this car, just like other Porsches, is state-of-the-art technologically speaking. Looking at the photos however (as I've never seen one in real life), it is butt ugly. I struggle to understand how they could come out with such a charmless, unfinished-looking design. The front of the car is a mess. Please tell me anyone that it's beautiful in real life and save my illusion that Porsche are one of the few companies left who still know what great cars are all about. |
| Cayenne |
| MrHahn 4-12-2002 |
Nothing was wrong with the 914, there are still thousands driving in the USA and its a joy of a car to drive, it may not have been a 911, but neither was a 928 or 968. The Cayenne is a horrible thing but if it will help them with profit to support their Lemans comeback, I dont really mind |
| Turbo and S are both great!! |
| DJ AnCo 3-12-2002 |
I don't know what all the commotion is about this car looks good. It's got all the nice porsche design features. Not only that but there's a nice V8 in there, which has enough power already in the S version. The Turbo version is even better, if i am not mistaking thats the most powerfull SUV. Although it problably won't be used oof the road, it still is an amazing car. |
| it looks horrible but.................. |
| motorhead 3-12-2002 |
it is very good. Have you ever thought about that. How many cars out there look like a square box with wheels, but they are all good. Maybe porsche has done too good in engineering do design out the looks(like the NSX) but you say this is a SUV isn it. I repect you to the fact that it looks like CRAP BUT PORSCHE WANTS NEW CUSTOMERS. Nobody will feel embarrassed sitting behind the wheel of a cayenne bacause they know it is good and it is expensive and not many people have it. porsche also wants to enter a new sector in the motoring world and i respect that. |
| Horrible |
| Jimothy_Jebus 3-12-2002 |
I cannot believe the terror that porsche has come up with. All of those fine automobiles, the 911, 959, 917, and Boxster, and then they come out with this. It looks like they jacked up a 911 with some springs and shoved the Cayenne name on it. the whole car, if I can call it that, is a disgrace to the Porsche name. they have done many brave steps in the past, but this is one that they will not be proud of in 10 years, it will be worse than the 914, and no one that will own one will ever drive it anywhere offroad. Stick with a Boxster or 911 if you don't want to be embarrased. |
| no way! |
| enzo99 10-11-2002 |
there is no way that this can become a top selling SUV porsche can make sports cars, luxury cars, race cars etc.etc.etc but they can't make an SUV this thing is ugly and if i was drunk enough to buy this hunk of crap i would probly shoot myself after my hangover. THIS THING SUCKS! |
| This is the best SUV EVER |
| porschecrazy 7-10-2002 |
Go Porsche this car's got it all design, rugged capabalities and most of all the fastest engine on an suv i've seen. This baby comes with a standard V8 and 340 horses but can be upgraded to 450 and that is amazing. Now i feel sorry for BMW and the Benz G Class cause they don't got anything compared to this. |
