Packard's attempts at less expensive models started well before this 200 came along. The 1935 debut of the 120 rescued Packard from the Great Depression and broadened their audience, but would ultimately dilute the marque's lofty status. By the late 1940's, their days among the coachbuilt elite were a passing memory, with Packard no longer a strong player in the luxury market. An undignified demise selling redecorated Studebakers was not far off. |
