we were driving late at night when we passed the bentley showroom, where i spotted the GT. i told my dad to turn around to get a closer look. up close this car is amazing. its a lot sleeker than what i had expected it to be from the pictures. it was in black & is almost the length of a ferrari 550. the silver grill , xenon headlights & elegant lines make this car outstanding. it looked totally differnt from an arnage next to it. nobody could tell they were from the same brand. although i do think its interior could be better .since the gt is designed for youths , not adults who would prefer being driven rather than driving ,the interior is designed accordingly but i think they could have done better.now if the W12 had a little more power , i would really buy it if i had the money. it will have some serious competition from the ferrari 612 , aston martin vanquish [2+2 seater is optional] but im not sure about the CL65 AMG.

"I was at the Crewe factory Sept 12, 2003 to see the production line of the Arnage and GT. Enormous progress has been made since my last visit in Dec 2002. There were about 2 dozen GTs in various stages of completion. The car looks very poised and muscular in person. The tour guide, Mr. Rod Tilley was friendly and informative. Bentley has settled on 9 exterior colors and 11 interior leather colors. The interior is composed of a primary leather color selection and a secondary color for the accents, both of the customer's choosing. There is a selection of 5 interior woods. The selection of paint colors, leather colors and woods are not as extensive as in the Arnage, making the GT a degree less ""bespoke"" than Bentley's more expensive models. In addition, the paint finish quality is not as good as the Arnage and it is referred to as ""piano finish"" meaning that there is a degree of orange peel left in the paint of about the degree of a good Lexus. If you want better paint, you have to buy the more expensive Bentley. The real thrill of the car is the performance, however. The sound upon starting is similar to a Ferrari V12, and upon reving it sounds like a Ferrari with a better muffler... more refined, yet still obviously very powerful. A driver took my friends and myself for a test drive, and he did a bit of performance driving, at least as much as he could in the small factory grounds. I dont think he floored it considering that we were in close quarters, but it was very fast. Contrary to what the other writers have written about the turbo lag being nonexistent, I felt a distinct power surge as the turbos engaged. I also detected a degree of torque steer, even thought I was not driving. The ride was taught and yet supple as one would expect of a Bentley. The front seats were generous and supportive, but the rear was a bit small for adults, not all that roomy as the factory suggests. The car was a beautifully finished and spectacular driving machine, and it was about as much fun a day as a car guy could imagine. My friends and I spent many hours over the next few days in London's RAC club hashing and rehashing paint and leather color combinations. This car is fresh and exciting, and with the pending introduction of the 4 door version(supposed to be about a foot longer) and the convertible, there will be a lot of excitement coming out of Crewe for several years to come. "To say this car is an original Bentley is a historical crime. All I can think is that the whole technic comes from VAG-Group. In the Cockpit domonates the stil of the VAG-Group, steering wheel, instruments, switches, airconditioning and navigation directly from Phaeton. The classical ""elite"" british automotive indrustry is past! Now it is the time of refined mass-production parts! But it is wright, that they should offer something to the lower -byers' classes."

I'm not fond of some of the interior design, but for me this is what Bentley means. It is a performance car where the customer is the one who doesn't need to make compromises. It is handsome and disreet, not demanding attention, but attracting admiration. I'm going to keep buying lottery tickets in the hope of buying one. W.O. would be proud of it

Excellence exterior design, Seems all the Bentley DNA been preserved well. But the share of mechanical components with Audi is always a question to me. In my opinion, the exterior gives the image to the car, but mechanical shape the soul of the car. This car might be much batter compare to any previous Bentley, but is this a real Bentley or an Audi under Bentley skin?

Ok first off I must say it looks nice. Second what was Bentley thinking, the Bentley company has set the standard for luxary for the whole world that no one could never hope to beat. Then they make this, don't get me wrong I would love to race down main street in a Bentley Continental GT but let's get real here who in there right mind would do that? Really there's not enough drugs in the world to make me do that. By the way most people who own Bentley's don't drive them anyway. Also who has enough money to waste when you get into a wreck? Personaly if I want a car like that i'll get a Honda S2000 or a Mazda R/X8. Bently stick to making formula F1 race cars and your high dollor luxary cars and leave the street sports cars to company's that can make them and people still be able to buy them and not worry about having to put a second mortage on there house.

"I already commented on this car when i viewed it at the paris and british motor shows of last year. Recently, I saw on the motorway a brand new CL600. Its always been an extremely handsome car. But trust me on this. Bentley, is on a different playing field in terms of aesthetics. Its breathtaking. BUT. and this is not a reserved 'but', it is now pissing me off that they are marketing it as ""the worlds fastest four door coupe"" ARRRRRGHHHHHHHHH. As good as i think the Bentley is, the rear seat space, of what i could see, was not much greater(if at all) than a CL mercedes. Also, the CL65 is just around the corner and will likely be a closer match on price to the bentley than its CL600 ""baby"" brother is. So the cl600 is no longer its competitor. the CL65 AMG will be a direct rival, at about 120 000 (probably with every conceivable option included.) SO BENTLEY BOYS TAKE HEED- YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL CAR- STOP THE FALSE MARKETING- IT MAKES YOU LOOK SILLY- LYING WILL NOT STOP THE CL65 BEING FASTER IN EVERY RESPECT AND AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED, THE CL SERIES IS A FOUR DOOR COUPE. IVE SAT IN THE BACK COMFORTABLY AND IM 6 FEET. To be honest, i dont think the Bentley needs to be any faster but would be interesting to see if bentley counters this mercedes horsepower crazyiness with its own engine upgrades...lets see..the CL65 has 612hp, 738lbs of torque...things could get very interesting!!!. I can't wait!"

"Haven't even seen it in real life and don't know when I will be testing it but here's my comments for all they are worth Design definitely an aquired taste but then again if you are going to spend 100k of hard earned cash you don't want to be driving the same car as everyone else (although Bentleys target of 5000 cars a year somewhat dilutes that perception). And besides isn't the new shape apeing the same approach as that other icon of britishness - the Bristol.....asthetically challenged, but stonking engine. Performance - no comment, without any officically released figures which are committed to, how can I comment. The only 'inside' information I have is in the calender your 5k deposit gets you whilst you tick away the months until the new car is delivered. And believe me, there is no information only beautifully drawn pictures! Britishness - yep its fair to say, on the one hand pity the germans had to be involved, but then again, us british cannot build for jack (just look a the panel fit on a 3 year old arnarge). Oh and I notice no-one has discussed the support side of the equation. The traditional Bentley network is reputed to be somewhat less honest than most would appreciate (the last comment I received from an arnarge owner was ""don't buy from....a certain London dealer.. as you will find them selling your car to the nearest Arab with cash..."", this is from a man who had to accept a brown mulliner rather than a blue one just to get his car after waiting 9 months!. So here is hoping a little of the teutonic professionalism rubs off on the sales network. 100k for a car is a lot - but here is my justification. House prices in London have risen by 400% since 1992. So if you bought an average terraced house in brixton for 84k you would be sitting on 330k now.......guess you can see where I am coming from. Down size the house and buy a bentley! - bricks an morter don't travel at 180mph, don't ooze class, and definitely do not give you the thrill of spending a year waiting for a new proper british motor...."

This car is good it's very, very good! I'm not a Bentley Fan and being sub 50 would really not be in the market for one, but this is the car that will turn the company around! I have one small problem with the car i don't know if any of you have seen the rear space but were talking 2+2 very, very small people! But saying that there is a huge luggage space and plenty of room in the front! People were mentioning too many buttons, too similar to the other VW group cars! Well it will be said German's know how to design cars, why not steal the best parts and make it better and oh is it so much better! Bentley have cracked it, ok they may be ruled over by the VW group but they have managed to keep a special piece of what makes a car Bentley in each and every part of this delightful yet unassuming beast! And it is a beast! People mentioning the CL600 will beat it, Ill put my money on the Bentley, it may be heavy but oh will it be fast! Clarkson will try it putting his AMG monster up against the Bentley GT it will be interesting to see. Straight line the Bentley will have it, and youd think the Mercedes will have it on the corners then youd be wrong the four-wheel drive system will allow this Baby Bentley to glide around a track with almost effortless pleasure. It is a drivers car but not for those who would by a Masserati or Ferrari its a new type of car, one that fits so nicely along side the current Arnage to laugh at the larger of the Ferarris to say Im cheaper, Im British, Im Luxurious, Im fast and I handle like a dream with enough excitement too impress the most experienced of drivers to the point were I think well see ex racing drivers already in the queue for the first ones coming off the line at Crewe. Oh, did I mention this is a Bentley the noblest of beasts on this planet, with silly amounts of power, leather and toys. Bentley will be a name for the future, lets just hope it stays British enough. It may not be totally hand built in Britain anymore, but look at our track record for building cars (anyone seen the quality of a Rover recently) but this Car certainly has got a great deal of British blood! Gentlemen we have found our car of dreams and our car is that of the Continental GT with a W12 twin turbo 550bhp on a paddle shift what more can one ask for, well maybe 190MPH and a sound, a sound so sweet it beats the likes of Aston Martin's Vanquish. Oh and the fun doesnt stop hear, I cant wait to see what they bring out next, this should be interesting I think, there will be more, more to come from the Bentley Boys!
 New Bentley huh?

I cannot lie, this is a beautiful car but why keep the torque figures a secret? This tends to make me think that Bentley is not sure of what a car of this stature is expected to have, because if they post a certain figure the public might not think that it is sufficient enough. The MB CL 600 is my favorite car of all time but I would have to ride with the Bent' on this one becuase of how exclusive it will be. I mean which do you think you will see first on the street, the CL6 or the GT?
 Better than the CL600???

So all you guys think that this is a great car, eh? I don't debate with you, but have you ever heard of a car named Mercedes-Benz CL600??? It's got as much power, is faster, better looking to many eyes, has got more techno features and is considerably cheaper (than what VW is saying the Continental GT would cost...). So I don't think you guys should brag about the Continetal GT, because the CL600 beats it everywhere it counts!!!

I agree with some of you about this car. The side profile looks sleek yet muscular, i like the way how the lines look so tight, like tapered, like the old continentals of the 1950's. However the front is a bit iffy. Out of the CL600 or this car, the Bentley would have to do it for me. However i think the design at the front is too german esque. Those faired in headlights look too clean and fresh with not enough intricate detail. I have travelled in an Arnage green label, and i know that all bentleys have a sense of occasion when you step inside one. However it would be a shame for VW to make the Bently common if it aims to sell 7500 a year. It will make the mystery of the Bentley marque disintergrate.
 think VW not Bentley

Live with it. The original heritage from Crewe is dead. A lot of you are criticizing the plastic switchgear. But what you now forget is that it shares components and parts with VW and Audi, not with Rolls Royce. Look at the steering wheel, the gear shift, the instrument layout( although resembles Bentley) does have VW written all over it. The other thing i dont understand is that how can a supercar have a 4 spoke steering wheel with so many functions on it...and dont start on the Enzos wheel. Thats purely for the drivetrain control. I mean at those speeds u need a small nimble wheel that can be gripped onto, not some behemoth like this one...and yes three spoke too!

the new bentley looks quite nice but should be bigger,as with all of the late models they are spoiling the ship for a hapeth of tar it's got far too many plastic switches an buttons,as for the tourque they are not keeping it secret it's so high they can't get a reading it keeps breaking the instrument that records it wowwww torque of the devil

The Bentley GT is a very courageous yet long awaited advancement towards their place in present time. Of course, in the old days (im only 18) the Bentley ruled over the Le Mans and mean streets of the aristocratic elite. So evidentley, they have much to accomplish in way of the publics expectations. THough a 2+2 is one step i think too far, the GT has a the quality of a Bentley that no car has: THe subtle frugleness of a coupe but a lion in the wardrobe, so to speak. Bentley is like the 5 star colonel who led the troops into Normandy, but now he's jus trying to get a feel for the internet! Bentley has made an admiral jump from their previous model, but obviously not to society's standards. We all can say that the Bentley GT is a work of contemporary engineers, and with that comes the confusion of technology in the console. But if the car wasn't 2+2, if it only had an air conditioning system, and if they told us the torque, I could saftley say that this car would be closer to perfection than the curvature of a rain drop. But enough about would've, could've and should've. This car is a good try. A very good try. But time will only tell, because I think Bentley has come closer than ever to create the ultimate GT coupe for the money that you'll pay!
 bad job on the engine

this bentley is awesome, dont get me wrong, but I think they could have done a much better job on the engines power output. 500hp for a 6 liter, twin-turbocharged 12 cylinder engine? They could have gotten at least 800-1000hp out of this engine. Bad engine, good everything else.

the interor is not full of rubbish it is just not nice. The back has to be like that because it is a coupe not another arnage!! The interor is very messy and there are too many bottons all over the place which is not bentley style at all. anyway who cares about the looks of the bentley, what evrybody is wanting is its performance. Faster than a 360 or 456gt to 160km/h because of its 1003mn of..... waita minute 1003nm of torque!!!!!!!! Now who cares about looks if you have that sort of horsepower and torque. you will be flying so nobody will be able to look at your car unless it is parked. Anyway who do you think will win the shootout between the Cl600 and the continental gt. My vote goes to the CL!!!

One of the main reasons it has been made four-wheel drive is to handle the power the machine makes. As for styling, I like it, the headlights i'm a little concerned with, but other than that, really quite sweet.

Engine is absolutely brilliant but the exterior and interior is not thet good. If you compare this interior to the Arnarge R the arnage still looks nicer. Bentley says that there is no plastic in the continetal gt but the interior in the arnage r still looks better and the arnage evokes a better sense of luxury but the continental has steptronic!!! Very good effort though!!!!!

Simple and straight, the back view isn't that appealing to me (can't quite explain why, though) and the front is a little too much mercedes benz ...look carefully. Still I consider this a big step forward compared to the over-boring classic BentleyRolls design.
Best looking car of Paris Motor Show!

"That takes some doing. From the Ferrari Enzo, to the Porsche Cayenne (which IS attractive in the flesh). I was fortunate enough to sit in Ferraris, Lambos latest, and get on the stands of the Pagani Zonda and Bugatti Veyron. Let me tell you, from every angle, the Bentley is breathtaking-perfectly formed- the photos really do not do the presence or the beautifully clean lines justice-cliched but true. There arent many cars that look great from every angle. Take Ferraris Enzo; in black it looked like it was ready to do some crimefighting. Stunning to behold, but in pure aesthetical-form terms, appeared slightly unseasy to the eye with its superlength wheelbase and split windows-but Ferrairs are more about function these days than pretty looks. The curse of the killer-length wheelbase also applies to the Zonda C12s-but is still the best looking supercar around-and probably lowest! The Murcielago was relatively austere in comparison-the beauty of the women attending to me was of greater value. I would humbley say the latest bentley is as attractive if not more so than the latest Merc SL55 AMG, which is another one of those must-see in the flesh kinda cars. Im from England, and was told the Paris motor show is the biggest in the world-im not going to disagree. We may have an underlying love-hate relationship in there but it was a phenomenal show with an incredible amount of new launches (with very attractive stand girls!). I felt... unstressed taking in all la nouveau voitures. I take my bowler hat off to the French for their organization and the VW bunch. How you can sell it for ""only"" 100000 seems a relative bargain. Congtrats.-if i start saving, im 21, let me see, this time next century..."""

8-9-2002
"August 17, 2002 Impressions of the Bentley GT Coupe Pasedera Country Club Monterey, California John Livesay I was invited by Bentley Motors to view the new GT coupe and to drive the full range of new Bentleys on the Saturday of the Pebble Beach Concours weekend. Bentley Motors brought 23 new Bentleys for our group to test drive. Present were Arnage R, Arnage T, Azure, Continental T, and Mulliner LWB. We were allowed to drive each car as much as we desired. They were all great cars and each one was tuned to present different driving characteristics. The most important event of the day was, of course, the presentation of the new GT coupe. Bentley motors had set up a large white tent on the grounds of the Pasadera Country Club over looking the beautiful golf course and hills beyond. In front of the tent were a Speed Six Bentley and an R Type Continental. These cars set the tone around which Bentley Motors designed the new GT coupe. Within the tent was hidden the new car. After a few brief speeches by Bentley officials and introduction of the interior stylist and exterior stylist, the crowd was allowed to view a mock up of the car. The crowd rushed forward to enter the tent, but everyone kept a stunned and reverential silence for some minutes, until hundreds of eyes became adjusted to the darkness and the details of the new design came into focus. Gradually, whispering began and I was able to hear only adjectives at first. Adjectives like ""gorgeous"", ""fantastic"", ""beautiful"",""brutish"", ""powerful"", and ""spectacular"". Soon, people were whispering in complete sentences, and gradually they began to speak in normal volumes. Among the group of Bentley afficianados in attendance, there was nearly unanimous approval of the styling of this first new Bentley in 50+ years. Numerous people have asked me to give my opinion and to answer specific questions regarding my viewing of the car. I had the rare opportunity to question both the interior stylist and the exterior stylist at length while they were at the venue, and I will reveal their responses to my questions here. In overall impression, the car is about the dimension of a BMW 850 coupe, but about 25% larger. The sweeping curves give the impression of great speed and power even while standing still. The sweeping curve of the front fender down across the side of the car to meet the upward sweep of the rear fender effectively echoes the perfection of the curves of the R Type continental, and lends to it similar grace. The bonnet is long and dominant, and begins with a somewhat minimalised Bentley radiator shell. The shell itself is flush with the bodywork and is painted the same color as the bodywork. There is no standing ""B"", but there is a chunky thick flying ""B"" surface mounted to the top of the grill. The cockpit is gracefully postioned within the design and the whole is very harmonious. The rear emulates the fast back design of the R Type continental, but is updated and somewhat less graceful. The tail lights are flush with the bodywork. Although the doors of this mock up did not open, they appear to extend beyond the front seat to allow access the the rear seats. The doors are also frameless and with the windows down, it is a pillarless coupe. I spoke with the designer about whether or not various modifications of the exterior such as chrome radiator or flying ""B"" could be specified as options. He was very evasive, and said that those decisions had not been made yet. The interior appears to be about as spacious as the BMW 850 coupe. This mock up was not in a state of completion to allow anyone to sit in it. The interior features a facia split into two sections, one for the driver, with its instumentation, and one for the passenger with the walnut veneered glove box to play with. The impression is that of two side by side cockpits with a large center console somewhat isolating the front seat occupants from one another. The car has a large amount of walnut veneer and the familiar round ventilation ducts on the facia. The seats are similar to a sports car like a Ferrari, with the head rest integrated into the seat structure. The interior designer told me that the seats would be of the most advanced design with many adjustments available including a linear adjustment for the seat cushion to provide support for the legs of taller passengers. He also said the many choices of leather would be available but was evasive when I asked him whether more exotic seating surfaces such as pig skin could be ordered. He did volunteer that they would offer high end luggage as an option and that the trunk would hold 2 large suitcases and one small one. He said that the trunk could accomodate a wheelchair if needed. The car gives the overall impression of a well designed and beautifully executed sports-touring automobile. After having driven the Arnage T with 450hp, rear drive, 6000lb car, I am looking forward to the experience of the GT Coupe which should eclipse the fabulous Arnage in every way. """

i heard the gt coupe will be named the continental gt. The continental name is much better than gt coupe. Look at the cars that are coming out of bentley and rolls royce after their seperation. The continental Gt is now one of the most beautiful cars on the planet and the rr by Bmw looks fabulous. They really should have seperated earlier. The most powerful and most beautiful bentley is also the cheapest. Now that is what i call a good deal. Great!!!

Finally Bentley are alive after too many years under Rolls leadership, these 2 brands never did match. This car should hot the market fast and get ridd of the W engine, you dont use a Passat engine in a Bentley, use a rela V - 12 guys with a supercharger, would be much more Bentlish. Do we also await a convertibel here???? Would fit.!! Else good luck and great that this brand are revived, think the future will be great for Bentley. The EXP8 are also a dream machine.

Yes..it is a smart car indeed.I would rather say the perfect car for the people between 24 and 38 years.Apparently it is bit different and unique. Considering the specs of the new Bentley GT Coupe, I think that Bentley Cars can rightfully claim that here indeed is a car that is the definitive Grand Tourer. Better still, it is a refreshing new design which is purely original. That said, while it is an utterly fantastic machine, I'm rather worried that the specs suggest the Bentley GT Coupe will be prohibitively expensive to own and maintain.
