Any news on the HSV GTS-R? This was supposed to be a spiritual successor to the HRT427 with an upgraded LS2 (6.0L) engine based on the Monaro body and a proposed 335kw of power.

If i was a rich man i would diffently buy this fantastic car, i was really upset when holden decided to pull the plug on this car, but hopefully in the not to distant future holden will build something thats just as fantastic as the 427.

First of all 1) This car isnt meant to quarter mile. 2) Find me a V8 Camry or Magna that can drive for 1000Km at 190KMH AVERAGE and still finish 5 Seconds near their closest competitor....Techological Advancements? Are you a tit? I don't know if you have driven a falcon and commodore of the same price range, but you might as well drive a sponge let alone a falcon. The commodore's suspension is ublievable....It handles like my 2 litre toyota corolla....like a go kart. Get out and learn what a car should feel like and get off your playstation.

Let me put it this way. The Monaro 427 competes in the Australian Nations Cup against a Ferrari 360 GT, several Lamborghini Diablo GTR's, and two Chrysler Vipers. Thats an annoyingly quick Ferrari, a 6.0 litre V12, and an 8.0 litre V10. How many cars do Ford have in Nations Cup? Zilch. Nada. Squat. Ford entered a new Falcon GT into the GT Performance catagory. In the first days races, it didn't manage to come in higher than 9th, while Holdens (with the odd Subaru thrown in) consistantly came out on top. Who's the best? Monaro is Back. Game Over. (Oh, and Kick Holden? You are a sad, strange little man.)

"Ohhhhhhhh, isn't it sooooo sad this car isn't coming into production? It was ""only"" going to cost $220 000, until Holden figured it would have to cost at least $100 000 more, considering the low volume. So Holden are the front runners huh? Well, I'm sorry to say, but in locally designed vehicles, they have a lot of catching up to do. Their imported cars are good cars, but the Australian model Commodores lack the technological advancements made in the Falcon, Camry, and Magna. Pushrods, honestly, are a joke :->"

What a beast! Amazing engines, breaks, suspension, just ashame they had to spoil it with a bright red colour and that crappy aluminium thing coming out of the bonnet, otherwise a great car and having a 300kph top speed with a close ratio gear box, its surely gonna take something spectacular to beat that in a quater mile drag!

"Though there are some that deride any car made outside of Michigan, anyone that I know, that actually knows anything about cars, are jumping up and down in anticipation of the highly praised Holden. Anyone who's tried to flog a 1967 GTO around curves in the backwoods of Kentucky can tell you just where they fall short against imports, such as a Turbo Supra: handling. The Holden has been reviewed as a stunning balance of handling and power. The ""muscle cars"" that survived to be produced in the U.S. after the early 70's, are little better, having, from my experience, poor handling and styling far out of step with the rest of the world. The real obstacle to the GTO will come in the form of GM executives. The car is much more practical than the Corvette which is produced 30 minutes from my home, FAR better looking than any 4 seater produced in the U.S., and they would have a hard time working out a high price point given Pontiac's reputation poor build quality of late. Admittedly, making it the supposed basis for Pontiac's NASCAR may be the only way to win over the crowd that disapproves of it's origins. Realizing this cold hard fact should make anyone very happy this GM is not being built here and that there is already a source of aftermarket parts for this platform. I've read quite a bit about Holden't original muscle cars and though they may not have started the musclecar craze, they certainly have a solid name. Complaints will fade to a faint echo once the GTO is on the road. Overcompensating for Redneckedness: Bud Barker"

Also, I'm not sure if you are aware that the HRT 427 is getting produced for the Aussie Public. 50 of these cars are getting built and are already all sold for a hefty price of $215,000. The show car isn't going to be exactly the same as the produced car, because the show car didn't have to meet any standard requirements and regulations for a RWC.

I hope you guys understand that the HRT 427 is NOT a holden product, but a product of HSV. Yes that is right, they are different companies, albeit with a close relationship. This also means that the HRT 427 is NOT a Monaro, rather it is a Monaro shell but that is about all that is Monaro about it. The name HRT 427 does not mean it was built by the race team, but because HSV and HRT where both owned by TWR, they opted to name it that because it's nature is to be a race car. Just thought I'd clear a few things up for you all.

"Ok, I'm sitting here taking in ALL the comments being made. On most levels, I agree. This cooperative effort by HSV, HRT and Holden has in the end formed a very powerful, and visually appealing car (to me, of course hehe). However, even though this car was originally benchmarked against the GT2 etc.. In terms of CLASS, the HRT 427 isn't even in the same category. In fact, its above ALL of the Porsches, BMW's etc.. Why? Value for money. You get a full-spec Racing car (which *can* double as a road car) for $200,000AU? If you ask me, keep your European cars.. We'll buy ours inhouse, and be better off in the end in terms of cost. Why spend $500,000 on a Porsche, when you can buy a HRT 427 then spend $300,000 on enhancements, or perhaps to.. haha, purchase Petrol ;D hehe.. Take care - Kris"""

"Dispite numerous qualifying dramas including two diff housings, a new fuel cell, and an overheating differential, plus a crash during the race, the monaro 427 won the first bathurst 24 hour race by over 23 laps. This backs up Holdens controvertial TV add, ""Game over"", showing the monaro beating a whole range of top performance cars including a porsche. Well in fact there were at least 5 porsches behind the monaro, as well as a ferrari, and an american made Mosler supercar (second). I think this is a huge result for HRT and holden, furthering thier dominance in the Australian market place, and proving that they can be very competitive over some of the best performance vehicles in the world. I saw this thing going around bathurst in october and it looked bloody quick even on a wet track. I can't see how it won't be competive given that the whole package has been built with one purpose, and that is to annihilate the competition. The game over ad showing the monaro beating lambo's, porsche's and ferrari's is a hell of a lot to live up to. On the street and the track the outcome is a little different. I remember watching a camry handing it to an ss in gtp and an xr6 that couldn't shake a 1.3 ltr gti. That is how factory cars perform on the track and nations cup is no different, only performance and budgets increased. Obviously brakes, ems etc are upgraded on all the cars but how many are purpose built race cars? Wake up holden, when we see a base model commodore keeping up with a base model magna/camry on the track in gtp then some credibility might be restored.

Yes this is a very good car and im glad that the australian car market is heading down this path. And this is coming from a one eyed ford fan. However the australian car market lacks the finese to compete with brands such as porche, bmw or porsche. Why do i say this? This holden has alot of power enough to move a damn country but its a bloody big donk 7L is bloody big (ohh to here the engine note), however porsche, bmw and merc alike all use relatively small engine sizes 911 GT2 for example 3.6L producing 340kw mind u it is turbo. However i am wanting to see more of this car in the future so that the australian market will continue to grow. Congrats to holden. and unfortunately the trumpets wont make it into the road goin car. ohwell

Monaros look ok on paper, better in the flesh. The pix from the wheels mag look stunning, this car has got to look beautifull!! I think the HRT 427 should go over to the states as the Pontiac.. at first the Americans would look at the lack of old GTO features and start whining....but crank the engine over, hear the rumble, watch the beast sprint around the track though, and they will be reaching for the cheaque book... All they have to do is figure out how to make them cheaper for the Aussie market.

Much has been made of the news that the Australian Holden Monaro will form the basis of what is to be a reintroduced Pontiac GTO in the USA soon. That car will be built in Australia and exported to the USA. Some of the USA Pontiac GTO fans are miffed that such an American icon as the Pontiac could be sourced from any other country than the USA. However, I believe that this up-market specification of the Holden Monaro would make for a Pontiac, the likes of which have never been seen before. It surely would be apt compensation for the fact that the Pontiac GTO is to be made in Australia. GM-H has got it right!
