 An owners commentary

Prejudice is clearly still rife from reading most of the other comments. Surprising how knowledgeable some people think they are without owning a Superb. Badge snobbery rules over common sense and VW -Audi cash in on it as well as others. Whilst the Superb cannot be considered as a sports car in any way, the 2.5Tdi version I have is far better than the flaccid VW Passat I owned when that car first came out in the UK. The current version of the Passat owned by a colleague seems no better. The quality of the finish is a level above the VW as is the overall size for passengers and the seat comfort. Other cars in its price range may seem better value but put a 6 foot plus teenager {or two)in the back of a Jaguar X Type, Mercedes C or BMW 3 series for 300 miles and you will change your mind if you are of a similar height. Moans and regular kicks in the back of the seat will regularly occur as I know to my cost. The 2.5Tdi engine is both smooth and powerful once under way but as with all these VW-Audi V6 diesel they do need to sort out the distinct lack of power below 1500rpm. Whilst it will pull for, tickover in any gear with gearing at 36mph/1000rpm 6th gear is unusable in town and on any incline below 50mph. Above that speed no problem all the way to an indicated 150mph on the continent. Economy is fine and I often get over 45mpg. So forget your prejudices, try one for a few days.

A different Skoda u say... True but it'll take a while to change ppl's mindsets especially in singapore where u and i come from. skoda outsold seat, but how many seats were there to start with? Dont get me wrong i like skoda, it looks sporty and agressive, especially the octavia rs, but to challenge the luxury market is a bit far fetched... a Merc or a Skoda? they r in a different class.....
 Superb?

It may be called the Skoda Superb, but we can't blame their efforts in trying to create a luxury car that requires the money of a Jaguar X-Type or Audi A4 to buy something this side of an S-Class. Yes, it's a Skoda, but it's a DIFFERENT Skoda! Can u believe it, in image-consicous Singapore, Skoda outsold Seat! The Superb may not be a great sports saloon, or worry Mercedes, BMW or Audi, but it is definitely on the right path.
 feet rest

I personally tried the feature of the feet rest through the front passenger seat. It really is something useful that helps you to survive long trips, even if you are driving with 2 persons only. If it would be put in a BMW or a Mercedes it would be welcomed as comfort break-through. Now introduced in low branded marque like Skoda, it may be just considered as a stupid gadget. It seems that everything in cars these days is about image and not about reality.

Well, people who can afford it will never buy a car with Skoda's reputation. Fact.

A luxury Skoda? Hell, if Volkswagen can't pull it off, who can? Anyway, this car is much like the Vanilla plain sedans and Wagons that Volkswagen Group have been releasing recently. The build quality might be good, but their is little else to recommend it for, maybe if you like you're Czechoslavakian cars built like Brick Homes ...
 excellent.

first thing that i want to say is that this car is not stretced a little, but a little bit more. this is a whole class more than passat can offer. you get everything you can get in vw just for lower price. whats wrong with that. how many of you out there would like to have an imitation of ferrari with all ferrari characteristics and to get it 30 or 40% cheeper. that is something isn't it. but you can't have that, you also can't compare vw, skoda and ferrari. but skoda superb is in the class with volvo s 80 and i hope you know how big that is.
 another winner from VW?

"You know I actually worked on this car about 2 years ago when it was the VW Passat S. This was a streched (so little you don't notice!!) standard passat for the Chinese Market. I know that in recent times VW has recognised under Pietsch that the intelligence of ""re-branding"" is a marketing failure and I hope this is the last example. For Skoda it must be a thorn in the side considering the original beauty - any chance of logging some images onto the Ultimate Car Page so that everyone can see what I mean."""
