Hey it's a beautiful car but my God when you can buy a 650hp corvette for $109K vs. what over half a million for the GT? Please.

Using pre-existing design cues, Ford was able to devise AND produce a Ferrari destroyer. Though the Bugatti Veyron is the best supercar of 2006 (no one can in their right mind can overlook that fact), the Ford GT can only be considered the best in 2005. For about 50K less than an F430, the GT yields better performance numbers and track times. The GT is also claimed to match the 0-60 times of an Enzo, while costing about a fifth as much.

Sorry for the 3rd... too bad I can't append or combine.
Anyhow this is for DRAGONCAR.

As far as Bugatti LAUGHING out the GT, well the EB 110 SS which should be their flagship, no? is barely ½ a step ahead of the GT. 3.2s versus 3.3?? If you can tell the difference I will buy you one. 214mph versus 205mph?
I think sweating it out is more like it rather than laughing. Oh yeah, and that Bugatti is the most hideaous creation I ever laid eyes on. I don't think Don Johnson on a bad set day of Miami Vice could have designed it worse. I am a Ferrari man, not a Ford man, but if I were a millionaire, I'd have a Ford Cobra (the new shelby one) or a GT in my garage WAY before a Bugatti, regarless of pricing. Of course these are all tastes and opinions and I may be all alone in this, so I am not personally attacking your post, just the part about how Bugatti is eons beyond the GT.. Just like Ford makes a metallic purple escort.. I would never own one but obviously if they make it people want 'em.
So don't take this as a flame.
Paul Newman probably has one already...

Well it's not Monaco, but let's face it, the Ford GT40 was a Le-Mans favorite then and now it's younger brother the Ford GT is as saucy as ever. The only negative on the interior are the 60's futuresque metal suction cups molded into the seats. As far as the exterior, standard GT40 borrowed fare. This car seems to be responsible for creating a divide between enthusiasts and race drivers. I am an enthusiast that actually raced so I personally feel, if the performance is there, it's a racecar to me. Some vehicles lack refinement, some are too luxurious for the race track but for the most part they are all track-worthy thoroughbreds, or they wouldn't be at the track in the 1st place. It's a releif that the US is finally in the "exotic" market with a 6 figure car. The specs tell it all... gobs of power, next to no weight and a suspension package to handle it all. There are a few conflicting themes between creature comforts, style and performance. They don't mix very well but then again, Panoz has produced some awkward rides as well. The GT is like the Rich Uncle that shows up uninvited. Everyone talks bad behind his back but can't stop asking for more money to his face...

This will be a niche buy for sure and not just because dealers are fetching as much as $400K for them.
Love it or hate it, Ford is drawing a line in the sand and so far, nobody overseas is daring to cross it...

Sure everyone complains that it looks like a GT40, but what's wrong with that? I bet it's a riot to drive too but with no traction control or computers of any kind between the car and the road, it makes it a brave man's choice and it's engine sound is no-existent in the cabin, it's very civilised as well as being rough.
It doesn't really get my attention

What I read is that this car is aimed at the Ferrari 360 and Porsche GT3. I don't believe that is the case. If it is, Ford had to come up with a 5.5 V8 SUPERCHARGED to beat the 3.6 litre Ferrari and Porsche. Of coarse any car with this capacity and SUPERCHARGED will outperform normally aspirated 3.6L cars. Also,I find this car quite ugly. I recently saw this car at a motor show and it really didn't attract much attention. Not to mention that it looks like a car that is still in the 1970s. Please take note that F1 driver Damon Hill tested this car and the Ferrari 360 CS. His conclusion was that he would choose the Ford for road use and the Ferrari for track use.

The 2004 ford gt is a good car, with it's amazing horsepower and it is not as expensive as the cars matching it's performance, like the porsche carrera gt and the SLR mclaren. But, I, do not like this car too much. After the car was tested, this car can only travel 75 MILES with a full tank. This is a 17.5 gallon car, that means IT TRAVELS 4 MILES PER GALLON!!
This car is for sale. If you want to drive it to town or something, if you park the car at one space at a whole empty row of parking spaces and get out of it, just imagine two cars would park next to the GT (One At The Left and One At The Right) When the GT owner goes back to the car, HE CAN'T GET INSIDE IT!!! Reasons are, the car is too short (43 Inches Tall) and the car door(s) have roofs. I don't think there's a way to get in. Well, i hope Ford does a better job in doing this.

This car was recently tested on a drag. This car was originally intended to do battle with the ferrari 360. Instead it ended up just blowing away the ferrari in every area. Tested at car and driver magazine. The car is able to accelerate to 60mph in 3.3 seconds and about 11.65 sec.to a 1/4 mile just like the Saleen S7 but with 50bhp less and with 500lbs. extra? This car is also $250,000 less than the Saleen S7. Personally I would rather spend $150,000 than paying $400,000 for a car that does the same in stats. The Ford GT is a work of art and destroys everthing thats even close to its price range. So far I have seen it tested against the Ferrari, Porsche GT3, and Viper it beats all.

The GT is one of the best cars on the planet today! It's beutiful, extremly fast, has great handling, and because it has a Modular small-block V8 it will be durable and easy and cheap to repair in the event that it does break. For 150grand it is one of the greatest performance cars in its segment faster than the 911turbo, 360, Viper, Gallardo, or a (comparitavly modified)Z06. To call this mighty car retro does it no justice, it is evolution not reincarnation. Maybe if it is succesful we'll see a 7liter, supercharged 1000hp Hyper exotic like a GT90. The king has returned! Off to Lemans!!!!!!!!!

I am so pleased that Ford have decided to saty faithful to the origional design of the GT-40. When Volkwagen unveiled the new Beetle it was not a new beetle...it was a golf's chassis with a bubble on it! The car was no longer Mid-engined and rear-wheel drive, it was now Front engined and front wheel drive. When a company re-releases a Design CLASSIC like the beetle they best not botch it up and VW did. They lost the essence of the origional peoples car. The new GT-40 however is stunning. The '60s car looked great. And so does this. They have hit the nail right on the head here. It really is a GT-40, just...new. When you look at it, it is distinctly GT-40, but its construction looks newer. It is exacly what a NEW version of a classic should be. WELL DONE FORD!

Some people are critising the shape of this car, but I love it- however the real statement I'm going to make here is that Ford have taken the best option by going retro with the GT40- if they had done a modern design it would have been just a Ford, but with this design it is a Ford GT40- itself almost it's own brand. If only I could afford one...

This is Great It got's everything and more. Speed Design wrapped in one. This has a power second to few. So it kicks as with a standard Ferrari. It lets Porsche see all the corners of the ring. But then.... Lamborghini begins to become a danger. And Bugatti laughs it out. So this Frod GT is a perfect center of everything. No to and not les. It's great.

...back in 1985,Ford sold the rights to the GT40 badge and name to a british company called Safir Engineering. The safir company sed it wanted the rights in order to separate the more expensive GT40 replicas it had been makin from the growin number of cheapo plastic kit versions. When safir stopped production in 1999, the rights to the badge had been sold Safir GT40 spares in the US which sold parts for the 160 real GT40s built between 1964-69. when ford wanted to show the GT40 concept at last years detroit show , a special deal was struck with safir for a one time only use of the name. How ever ford wanted to put the concept into production, and again needed the rights, safir sed that the rights would cost them $40million +, ford didnt wanna pay up so they deceided to call it the GT instead, sayin the only reason it was called GT 40 in the 1st place was because its ground clearance was only 40 inchs high.

to me, the original gt40 (and to a point the lola that it was based on) was one of the turning points in car design. look at what came after it form the italians, lamborghini miura, ferrari dino. both of these cars are so obviously inspired by the gt40, especially the miura. look at modern cars such as the lotus elise and you can see the influence of the gt40. it is for this reason alone that i put this design way above that of the 360Modena. as for retro being bad... the beetle was/is bad because despite being a totally new body shell, not much was done to the chassis set-up to compensate for different forces. it really is a golf in drag. the new mini? as much as i want to hate it, i've driven one (cooper s)and it is too good. back to the new ford gt, well, it looks the biz but only time will tell if it will live up to it's predecessor.

"Ford hit the nail on the head. They did not have to invent a new car, just bring us back the old GT 40. That was a car so far out of reach for most of us it was hardly real. Bringing it back is a stroke of genius. The car is perfect. What a shame it is not a GT 40. Ford GT sounds like a fast mustang maverick galaxy pinto. It sounds soooo plain. Every car manufacturer has a GT. We the boomer generation want a ""GT 40"""

I remember when the GT got a 1-2-3 win at Le Mans. This car is pure beauty, with a nice engine. Of course nothing is more beatiful than a Ferrari Maranello, but this comes close. I wonder how they'll do in Le Mans... The way things are going, I'd say Ford is about to claim another 1-2-3 at Le Mans.

hey subwoofa, good call about the name, i never really thought about it before, but good call. i think ford could have gone with something a little more unique. i know they tried to get the gt40 namesake back and everything, but i guess they are just trying to stick as much as they can to the original. i love this car, i think it is the best thing to happen to ford in a long time, i cant wait for it to come out. i agree with the guy who wrote that ford should have continued with the amazing gt90, that thing was a beast also. but i think ford did an awesome thing with recreating this.

yes i agree with you strongly. the GT40 is my favorite car and i think its awsome that its being remade(?) again. yes Ford GT does sound very dull but if it was GT40....o boy it would fantastic

Haha, a year ago, i thought this was a project based on complete nonsense, but now i see the light. This ford looks amazing and the thing that has me going is...ITS A FORD! (even though my dad works there). However, I think the name can be more unique...GT is kind of dull and i am sure everyone agrees with me on that one

"I love having happy people around, certainly don't wanna spoil your fun guys but, please... Somebody explain why they didn't spend the same money and effort to make the fab GT90 production-ready??? I don't exactly agree with kudosdude in most things. The Beetle is not exactly bad, although I personally don't like it much. The new Mini is quite cool in my opinion but this Ford was not even reworked in the terms of its looks. (Well apart form headlights and other tiny bits.) If you show it to someone who's not downright car-mad, he couldn't even tell the difference between this one and the 60's model. I don't get it; what was the point in doing this? Applause to Ford? Nah, I don't think so."
 Most beautiful car ever.

This could easily be the most beautiful body ever placed on the road by any company. This is the most beautiful incarnation of what a sports car should be. Personally though, I'm glad its supercharged. To get this kind of power out of an N/A motor would require a lot more displacement and throw off the balance of the car. Forced induction is the way to go.
 I'd still take a Z06...

I'm a Chevy guy through-and-through, but this is a great looking car. Very unoriginal and yet it looks so fresh. Shows you how modern the Lola desighn was in the early 60's! Nice job on this one Ford, happy 100th. Hovever I'll still just take a 2003 Corvette z06, throw on a paxton and blow the doors off the GT, Viper and 360 Ferrari.

Incredible, thats the first thing you say when you see the GT, i believe that Ford needed to produce a super sports car, not only for every carfan but also it pulishes the brand and that never can do harm, the car has everithing, the looks, the engine and the history.

It is an unbelievably gorgeous monster car. I have read in various car magazines that it is extremely fast and only a few of these monsters are built. Its way over a 100 thousand dollars but its an exclusive deal. you really need to know people in Ford to own this baby.

O-oh....think I'll have to work harder to buy one of these babies, but first this machine needs time to demonstrate how strong, brutal, and competitive will be against it's rivals and the most important fact, if it will be able to surpass the 60's incredible, numbers, services, victories, etc. How much money I'll need?

But who cares when it looks this good? Usually I am totally against such plagiarism and retro themes. VW Beetle, yeuch, Mini yeuch. But this is a masterpiece. Round of applause for Ford. I hope it drives as well as it looks.

Ok gentlemen, Ford in all their wisdom finally showed us what they are capable of producing in the Gt. Now lets see if they are visionaries enough to sell it to the public who have waited in the wings for years for these pieces of automobile architecture. I for one am ready to plunk down my deposit OR trade in my PT Cruiser and a trunk load of cash for one.............

This is it, this is what it's all about. Anyone else can say whatever the hell they want, but nobody can detract from the shere perfection of this vehicle. I don't care how much it costs or how difficult it is to find one, I will buy one of these if it's the last thing I do. Congratulations Ford, you've done it, the perfect car of the modern era.
