 Looks Fine

From the pictures (admittedly small), this looks exactly like a smaller version of the X5. I like what I see - for 3 Series drivers looking to move to a somewhatlarger vehicle that isn't a behemoth like the X5 (and with AWD for winter climates) this will find a huge market. The interior also looks well designed - definitely better than a Volvo or other lame competitor.

Another ugly design by Chris Bangle! I thought the Z4 was the uglest BMW ever made, but the X3 now gets the crown! What a shame BMW has lost it's design asthetic!

Probably this is targeted at the less well to do hairdresser, as I suppose that Beckham's private guy will drive an X5

"I am struggling to figure out exactly which sector of the car market this falls into. It is a total muddle, and I can't think who this type of vehicle would attract. BMW have wonderful cars that are strong competitors to all rivals in their respective classes: The 3-Series is massively popular family car, looking and performing fabulously; The 5-Series has always been a powerful, striking performance saloon; The 7-Series is a sought-after luxury saloon (I was also impressed by the new model, apparently the most technologically advanced road car in the world); The X5 is up amongst the best off-roaders; The roads are littered with Z3s, The 8-Series is an absolute beast (although underrated by most) and BMW have even released the C1, a roofed motorbike!!! The X3 is an outcast, and while it may combine ""outstanding agility"" with ""practicality"", ""comfort and stability"", it looks as though it has been crashed. As 'Supernatey13' explained, BMW had explored their design potential with the 7-Series and Z4 etc, but if the X3 is supposed to be an extension of this futuristic design expertise, then BMW have failed. The X5 does not need this younger brother, nor do BMW, or the British public."

This is another example of companies making smaller versions of their best-selling suvs. The X5 is the big bro to this. Lincoln has done the same thing with their Aviator (baby navigator).

"if you have read any of my other posts, youll find that i tend to like controversial designs, and i like them because the company is daring enough to try something different and break the mold. now i love bmw, and i know they are trying to be innovative and trying to stand out from the crowd and i respect that, but why does that have to translate into seemingly poor styles. i like the 7 series (yeah i dont mind admitting it), i like the z4 and i think the new 5 will be very cool, but as much as i try to deny it and give bmw the benefit of the doubt, this vehicle just made it so clear to me that all of bmw's designs have flaws. i know people are probably going to say..."" what did this guy just catch on...this has been going on since the new 7 was introduced""...and i am well aware of that point of view, but i could see the inovation and advancment in the 7, z4 and 5.. so i really thought that those design meant something to the automotive industry...but this to me doesnt break any mold or redifine anything..its just poorly styled...i think the poor design thing is becoming cliche and now im even starting to question bmw. a car doesnt have to be ugly to break a mold."
