I was invited to a sneak preview of this car in LA a few weeks ago. Try as I might, I simply could not like this car. The specs are not up to par. I've driven the Spyder which uses the same engine. Although powerful, it will not be enough for a car this size and weight. The looks do not appeal to me at all. The front end treatemnt is simply too heavy. At around $100K plus change, this cannot compare to the latest German panzers (E55, RS6, upcoming M5, etc), all of which sell for less. Also, granted the cars we saw were preproduction examples, the fact that pieces of interior trim were falling off does not instill confidence as an everyday car. I like Ferraris, having owned two (currently a 355 Spider F1), but when it comes time to replace my E55, it will not be with this car.

Maserati fanally has the balls to take on BMW, Mercedes benz, Audi, Rolls royce, Jaguar and Bentley at their own game. An excellent match up if someone can get it all together. Just think: Maserati Quattroporte vs BMW 760Li or 745Li (depending on price) vs Mercedes S500 or S600L vs Audi S8 4.2 Quattro vs Rolls Royces New model vs Bentleys new LWB sedan. If a motoring magazine get get all those car together, it would be a hell of a fight and almost impossible to declare a winner... P.S maserati is releasing a 4200GT. Stripped of 200KG for starters, Maserati will massage the 4.2 V8 aswell

Britain's CAR magazine has reported that a deal is in the works that will allow Maserati to offer the Quattroporte with Volkswagen's awesome diesel V10, which in current tune offers 309 bhp and an astonishing 553 lb ft of torque. Maserati's engineers will reportedly tune the engine further to bring it in line with the character of their car.
 Jaguar beware.

Very beautiful. Curves would normally make a car look smaller than it is but this shows otherwise. The curves stretch to ecstasy! Although it does look too Jag so it may not be deemed the most original. Also the front looks too Aston Martin. Like its THEM and not Masser that built a saloon! Boot and interior space also looks to have suffered in the name of form despite what they all (predictably)say about having the 'biggest interior space in its class'. The dash board could also benifit from looking more 'big car' and less coupe in its design idealogy. The controls and overall presentation doesn't look all expensive unlike the previous model's. The once expensive clock doesn't look it no more. Each component looks out of place and incongruous with each other. There is a lack of 'flow' in the whole design. Every thing appears 'cut and pasted' onto a very simple basic dash design. Pity. Of course, all that said, I may be wrong after all the car is barely rolled out. We'll have to wait and see to make final judgements. But honestly, if these spcs and pictures are anything to go by, it all bodes well for Maserati. Jaguar, in particular, be very VERY afraid. LOL.

it's not really make sense for Maserati to install a v8 which generate max power at 7000rpm, and max torque at 4500rpm on a limo. If you are buying a limo over 5 meter long with 2 ton weight, the quality quietness, and comfort will be so important. No question, the sound of this engine is music in a sports car, but it will make a limo feels lake of power, very hash & lower quality feeling. If they equip a super charger or couple of low pressure turbo to increase the power and torque at lower rev like Mercedes done in the S600, it will be a much batter package for this class, dont you agree?

One of the already annouced engines is 4 litre V8 Multijet (for non-cognoscenti: this is a diesel). Should be the ideal consort for relaxed long distance touring at acceptable fuel consumption levels.

i think this car looks great. I think it looks classy and i hope maserati will sell more of these than it does with thr 4200gt, it will make out streets look classier. If i had the money for a 4 seater, i would buy this car. it looks different, has that badge 'maserati', just saying out maserati sounds classy and cool. this car parked with a gallardo in the garage would be my dream come true
 Looks really fine but....!!!

"In the past, I owned a Tipo AM107 (Chasis N? 174 4.2l with De-Dion rear-end as well as other models of the make). The original Quattroporte, was an extraordinary car balancewise. I fitted the same with Koni adjustable shocks + Michelins + racing pads for the Girlings which, at the rear were inboard mounted making it by far better handling than any other. The Tipo AM109 (4.9l. Ghibli) or Tipo 106 (3.7 Mistrale), for instance, here in Canary Island windy/hilly roads stood no chance whatsoever. That said, other saloons such as the 6.3 Merc could also not keep-up at all believe me. My personal congratulations therefore to Mr. Luca di Motezemolo & his team for having (for the first time since then), managed to revive the basic concep with the new car. We must also congratulate Pininfarina who, in turn, was obviously also greatly inspired by the original (The other designs produced in-between 11,111 & 1V in my view did not live up to the original's spiritor standards. Balance is the word (road-going dynamics depends on it). It's the whole secret so, we can certainly expect the new addition to break new ground once again due to it's very careful near 50/50 weight distribution.(ie. v. backward-mounted engine+transaxle). I would, however, like to see un-sprung weight reduced with inboard dics at the rear with a carbon7ceramic option. When available, additionally the new ""Prodrive"" two- shaft gearbox (instead of the cambio-corsa which can clonck & hesitate at low city speeds) would be wonderful and improve the car. The one essential thing is the company has not managed to emulate the original version's low weight (1670kg). So, I think they could have gone a little further been and built it in aluminium especially since Ferrari/Maserati certainly have the technology. EG. the new Ferrari/Pinifarina 2+2 comming out in Detroit. With respects with this point therefore the new Jag (XJR) certainly appears to have the edge (235kgs less). A very considerable advantage (equal to 4 well-built adults!) for equal power (400 BHP) although, Maserati will probably be thinking of other more powerful versions using the new 2+2 V12 (ie. 560 bhp de-rated Enzo engine). AIn conclusion, it undoubtedly is a really v. good new car. CONGRATULATIONS!! & really great-looking."
 I like it.

"I got 1 negative comment about this car and that's that they should have kept the headlights a little closer to the original sketches, but that's just my opinion. Despite that, if I was ever in the market for an upscale $100k sedan. This would be it. Lets say your a performance nut who's got the money, but eventually u get married, have a kid or two. You need something with 4 doors, and u want some luxury, style and class; but u don't wanna drive a car that's commonly piloted by retirees over 60. You want enough power and excelent handeling dynamics. Ladies and gentelman, here's your car. If I ever make the money. This would be my family car of choice. Ecspecially if they go with the desplacement increase that's rumored to happen. It's got enough get up and go to statisfy a plenty, handeling to keep u entertained and smiling, enough luxury to keep u comfy cross country, and more style than any Merc, Bimmer, Audi, or Caddy. This is what I'd want."

henk4, you are very right to say that this car screams beauty. this is the first time i have seen it, but those elegant subtle lines and clean front and rear (unlike the now busy, complicated 2k4 bmws) are just awesome. i cant wait to see more of this car. im sure the 400hp v8 with a good power/weight ratio will make the car even more breathtaking.
