| Pretty but impractical. |
| Adrian 15-9-2003 |
Peugeot really does make great looking cars and this car is a another addition to its long glorious line. Futuristic it may be and I have nothing against forward thinking but this car looks way too impractical for any form of resonable usage. This car males the current crop of supercars looks like family transportation. |
| Peugeot's hugely original 4002 |

"I saw the Peugeot 4002 design study in Frankfurt on press day - what a fantastic looking motorcar! Unlike any of the other machines on display, I just couldn't walk past this one. It really grabs the attention with a sense of true occasion - that you are in the presence of something that MATTERS. Almost all the other concepts that I saw seemed to be reinterpretations of the Bentley Coupe theme, itself not an original shape - dated, long-roofed coupe profile, muscular haunches and powerful, bulky bonnet, with massive wheels to fill the over-sized wheel arches. It seems that most of the world's car designers had been to the same school of Mazda RX8 short-suicide rear door/tired old British coupe design. The Peugeot, however, stood out as absolutely original. Granted, the 4002 is also on 21"" wheels, but the curves on this car seemed to be organic, almost animal-like in energy - and the antenna-like rear view mirrors set it off perfectly. The way that the front grille and lights are connected to the same shape grille and exhaust vents at the rear by polished metal longerons gives the machine a great feeling of dynamism and must-have quality. The sort of shape one would be proud to own in the 21st century. The shape is absolutely true to the retro-futurist design brief, and congratulations should go to the greatly inspired designer. This car needs to be shown at other motor shows - its a shame that until you've seen it, it is difficult to appreciate how meaningful the shape really is. Hopefully this study will go on to influence many Peugeots in the future." |
