| Zero or at least lower fuel costs??? |

Since hydrogen can be generated by the use of small solar powered generators then it may be possible to power such a car on clean cheap hydrogen even before H2 stations abound. United Nuclear say ( http://www.switch2hydrogen.com/h2.htm )that they developed a system which supplements the gasoline with hydrogen and that this improves consumption by some 25% and still having a duel fuel vehicle. They say that they tried this out on a Corvette and an SUV. I agree with your concern for power/torque outputs because I can't see anyone spending more money to get a sporty or heavy vehicle with less power and with the additional weight of hydrogen storage cylinders. |

Of corse that this model doesnt have such a great power as the normal road version, but this is just a prototype and the objective of this car is not to go fast, is to go ecologic. And from what concerns to that, this car is just wonderful.Go ahead mazda. |
| Great concept, but lacking power |

I am giddy to see Mazda make a hydrogen rotary, but this one is just a bit disappointing. There are a few problems: first of all, with the reduced power trade off of using hydrogen in this particular engine, it just doesn't fit in an RX8. I mean, c'mon, 120 hp? Thats just an insult to the RX8 body around it. Dual fuel seems like a convenient idea, but if what I've heard about hydrogen thriving in rotary engines is true, then a rotary specifically designed for hydrogen should put up much better numbers. But until hydrogen is availible at the local shell station, I have a feeling that Mazda won't put anything like that out... |
| Kudos Mazda!!! |

"The Rx8 doesn't have ""atrocious"" fuel economy when you compare it to cars within the same class rating, such as v6 powered vehicles. Yet, either way, the HRE is an awesome concept that proves we could ween our economies from dependence on foreign oil, and keep the performance we all love so dearly. Now, I only wonder what the Hydrogen sounds like..." |

The RX-8 is a brilliant car in all respects- looks, perforamance and innovation. It has a downside though - atrocious fuel economy. THis hydrogen powered vehicle could solve that. However, looking at the power figures I am concerned. It is well down on the normal RX-8. Mazda should becareful not to ruin the RX-8's image. |
