"As much as I love my C5, I believe the C6 is the better car. Doing away with the pop-up airbrakes is a great idea. I hate turning on my headlights; it spoils the sleekness of the car. Maybe the new grill reminds some of the viper, and total drag is probably increased because of the larger frontal area even though the cd is down .01. Remember that drag is frontal area multiplied by cd. But going to 400/400 with the LS2 more than makes up for the increased drag. GM track tests recently yielded 186 top end. I've seen 165 in my HUD and that was opportunity limited. Hard to find a non-track place to go 180. But more important is relocation of the air flow. My C5 gets its intake air from two ducts about 4"" from the ground. Installing ram air addon's is risky because it's not hard to slug water from heavy rain into those low ducts. Hydraulic lock destruction of the engine IS NOT covered under the GM warranty. The C6 gets most of its intake air through that new grill which is several inches higher. Viper comparsions: The Viper is Barbarian transportation. Car & Driver cooked breakfast on a Viper doorsill during a test. Picture showed sunny side up egg and bacon. They tried a second helping after the acceleration runs and burned the bacon. KEEP BODY PARTS AWAY FROM THE CAR! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE WITHOUT PROPER PPE! Cost comparisions: As a C5 owner, I tell you, don't think you can get a C6 for $40K or a Viper for $80K. Sales tax on these guys runs $3-5K in cheap states. Plan on $50K for a Vette Coupe and $100K for a Viper. Add at least $6K for the Vette ragtop or a little more for the Z06. Now we come to the good stuff. Rumor has it that the C6 Z06 will have an updated double-overhead cam, 32V motor from the ZR-1 making 500/500 when it debuts in Sept 2005. Chevy will have dry-sumped the motor to get it under the Vette hood thus adding even more extra power. This will be coupled with a hydro-formed aircraft aluminum chassis to yield a curb weight under 2800 lbs. Viper? What's that?"

considering the c5 was the fastest production car you could buy with its 350 hp, this one should be even faster. the c5 was doing 0-60 in 4 and the 1/4 in 12.5. this was stock. the c6 has more power which kind of doesnt make sense considering its 0-60 is slower. oh well, doesnt matter, you slap a lingenfelter tt in that baby and it will eat anything on the road that you can find. not too many cars can beat a lingenfelter TT, considering when done right it has a 1/4 time of 8.95 seconds (holy christ) and a 0-60 of 1.9(once again holy christ) i gues this has nothing to do with the car, so lets get in to the review. i like the overall new look of it and the open headlights look pretty badass. and to answer one buddys question, chevrolet done this to commemorate the corvette heritage with the open headlights which havnt been on a corvette since 1957 or 58. the new interior is really clean and has some pretty badass features like the heads up display. instead of looking at the dash at your instruments you just look at your windshield, where whatever gauge you choose is prjected on to it. it has a really menacing look and the new ls2 is badass. also i dont think chevrolet will ever change the 4 circle taillights in the back. thats how you recognize what just kicked your ass in a race!!! haha. all in all the new c6 is a wonderful car, thank you chevy for giving us this, its cars like these that make us dream.
Doesn't seem like an all -new

"Auto makers face a big problem when they have to re-do one of their current models and it will become a bigger problem if it was a hot selling car which has a loyal group of customers. Nissan is one of them when it had to re-design its stunning legend ""the Z"". Keeping in mind the fact that the spirit of Z is an important heritage of Nissan, Nakamura with his team has brouhgt the Z into the 21st century. 350Z is a combination of ""newness"" and ""Z ness"" as they say. 240Z, 300ZX and 350Z are totally different models from each other. So, Nissan got rid of that problem succesfully. Interesting to see the replacements of 911 and Mustang. The strategy of making a blue-print of the previous model doesn't apply with many markets. Does this new Corvette still look like the previous model? They made no mistake!!! They got the spirit of the Corvette in this model as well but the fact that this model looks like the previous one may make them replacing the model sooner than they expect. At a glance, the only part of the car which differs this one from the previous model is the aggressive front fascia. Its like adding new attributes to an already beautiful sports machine. However, this car does not look dated but so familiar. Would've been a totally different style with the spirit of 'Vette. Unfortunately, it is not! Some can argue this is what a Corvette is all about. Sexy, sporty, curvy, unique design.... Yes, true, I got no comments there after!! Ups are greater than downs. So, if i could afford a 45000 $ car, i would consider buying one!!!!"

The C6 doesn't quite look as good as the fifth generation vette but then again no car does. Most of the exterior is looking really good except for the headlights. I don't understand why GM is choosing to ditch the hidden headlight layout for Viper style headlights. Other than that the Vette is still #1 in my book and as long as they don't ditch the quad circular taillights then they always will be.
This Is Y I LOVE Vettes

hey u ford guy u are just going to be like any other old school hate chevy person so y not just stay liking your crappy fords. As for the new corvette oh my god is all i can say i love vettes I also used to work for chevy and i can tell u that camaros and vettes are not made like any other chevy they are crap cars really but the manufacturing and enginering put into these two car is amazing and thank god that chevy stepped up to the plate and made the new LS2 even though our little 350hp C5 still competed with the viper and all them other cars up there now the new C6 is just gonna whoop them. and for that viper comment like the other guy said vettes have always kept there shape just changed with time but still the same style when u look at it not our fault dodge had to copy chevys design. Now i just hope the car im getting :{ nissan sentra SE-R spec V will hold me up for alittle while till i can land myself a good job so i can finnaly afford me my dream car. also i suggest anyone that never driven a vette to one day just out the blue like i did rent yourself a vette it was the best experiance i have ever had. LOL I also waved bye to someoen in a M3 that tried to race me lol 130 mph what a rush!!!!

I agree that the Vette and Viper are starting to evolve into one car. If you ask me, GM owes Mazda some copyright money. Look at the C6 nose and just say Mazda. I've always liked the Vette and this one will probably grow on me. Of more importance is the fact that the venerable Vette is GM's best performer. It's time that someone take a look at Ford and Chrsyler and pony up for a legitimate super car. The Ford GT has thrown down the gauntlet. GM has to stop settling for best bang for the buck in the sports car class. Build us something to dream about. I love GM, but their hottest ride should not be the Cadillac CTS V.

to the post that said that the new vette looks like the viper. it does look similar, but that is because when dodge redesigned the viper, it looked more like the c5 vette. and so while the vette has retained most of its visual character, it still marks a resemblance to the viper, but that is again because the new viper looked like a c5 vette when first introduced. overall this car looks very sharp. very clean with a a great aggressive look that makes it appear very taut and tight. i know that quality was a major issue with the last model (especially with the interior) and it appears that the corvette team has addressed that issue and responded quite well(although ill wait and see what kind of reviews it gets from auto mags). i know the performance will be amazing and the bang for buck ratio will be out of this world.

I like the shape. It's neat and well-balanced, much sharper than that of the C5's. I admit that Viper looks more masculine, but I can't resist those grown-up curves! Especially the rear-quarter view is as sexy as ever! Still, it's clear that Chevy has decided not to break the Vette tradition with the C6, and I don't know if that's right decision. I'm not going to complain because I love this shape but, at the same time, I'm aware of the fact that nice design evolution won't necessarily be enough for those who like striking Vipers and Italian exotics. In other words, as much as I like the good old Vette shape and construction, I've begun to worry whether the Corvette will survive if the guys at the Chevy won't take more radical steps some day. Anyway, I'd take take the C6 instead of any Viper without further heeding. It's just that this is my kind of car - or at least one of them. Let's hope it handles as well as it looks, because handling is much more important to me than the absolute power or velocity. My car has to devour bends rather than win cannonball races. 'Cause I drive for myself.
 this design is so weak...

i, obviously by my screen name, am not a particular chevy fan. although, within the recent past i have become less bias against them and everything they do. i was sincerely hoping that this corvette would change my mind. that the c6 would give me a reason to like chevy. it has not impressed me at all [referring strictly to the body, i don't care what it has under the hood]. the did little, if anything to change the very stangnate design. it will be another 12[!!!!!] or so years before we see another attempt at a new design... if anything it looks japanese now
 I'm droolin' over here!

"I'm so excited! Yeah, the Viper is more powerful. And sure, it's better looking in certain ways. But this thing right here costs $40,000+ less! And you've gotta realise that they're marketting to people like me, people who have loved Corvettes more than any other car their entire life. Besides, I don't quite like the new Viper SRT-10. So anyway, this thing is s'posed to look ""dated."" It's a Corvette!!! In conclusion, this thing is beautiful and powerful, and I want one NOW ^^;;;."

These few years, Chevy has seen it's Corvette being dethroned by the Viper as the proverbial American supercar. So perhaps this is why they have decided to make the front of this new genration look like one ?? But in their bid to look traditional, to stay within it's heritage, this car looks dated. Stuck in 70's and 80's when it first became a true icon. Suffice to say, the Viper is still the car that rocks. Not this. Not anymore.
