A really great grand touring car.

First of all in sixty years of motoring I have owned many high performance vehicles, raced them and driven all to their limits.
From an original 1936 Auburn straight eight that had a 2 speed diff and did 55Mph in first gear- to every jaguar model-all the yank tanks then the latest porsche turbo, ferrari, Lotus 240s Exige etc and even converted a Caddy Eldorado to right hand drive myself. This is a few of the 110 cars owned by this petrol head. Now the maserati appealed to me for one significant reason the 4.2 ferrari motor in it has chain driven quad cams and not belts that need regular replacing. The motor is that good you can forget about it except for regular oil changes, and the only other expence is tyres and brake pads as needed, the rest of the car is bullet proof. I did 3000klms in my first 3 days of ownership and fuel consumption was excellent. My 2004 manual spyder GT is badged 3/30 aniversary model so being one of the first probably got hand built and special attention. Does it have a fault? well yes one that you can live with,- on uneven surfaces it has steering wheel shake convertables tend to have bulkhead shake because its loaded up with the weight of the windscreen and has no support of a fixed roof for ironclad stability. In Australia our super petrol comes in octane grades of 91 95 and 98 there is no pinging on any of them but it becomes a bullet on 98. Most of my friends like it better than the ferrari which surprised me because I like the ferrari shape best of all. I love the demure lotus exige that snaps at the supercars heels for a fraction of the price. It's not a posers car or an ornament sitting in the garage its for the driver who pushes the envelope and arrives home with a grin from ear to ear which larsts to the following week-end. For now the maserati fills all needs but sometimes I wish I had an old bomb to work on ,it's boring just polishing
such a reliable car and you have nothing to write about. That might change in 20 years time when it becomes an also ran!!! Roy
