The Lamborghini Cala definately should have been sold. It has an amazing 400 BHP and it's beautiful, well why not put this car for sale? If this car was for sale, definately thousands of people will buy that car. Lamborghini made a big mistake. It's already nine years since the Prototype was made, just get it on sale! |
| True. |

This is the car the Gallardo could have been. Yet this was made 8 years ago! All it needed was a slight modernisation of various bits (already pointed out by a few) and it would have been great. Why did VW dump such a beautiful car in favour of The Gandini "machette-surfacing" Gallardo. As if Bangles "flame surfacing" for BMW wasnt enough already, the VW group allowed a great basic shape to be hacked to pieces...Just when I thought i was coming to terms with the whole back- end of the murcielago..... |

I'll tell you why this car was never produced. Actually, it was going to be put into production, along with its larger sibling, what we now know as the Lamborghini Canto. However, while these cars were undergoing testing and were nearly finalised, Audi came into the picture. Mr. Ferdinant Piech felt that the Canto lacked the Italian flair of its predecessors, so the design went down the toilet, and along with it went the Cala. Soon, what was once to be the Canto became the Murielago, and what was once to be the Cala became the new Lamborghini Gallardo. Sad, isn't it? |

Can anyone explain to me why this car was never produced. Its so hot! Definetly one of the best Lamborghinis out there. |
| The way I really feel about this car... |

... If Lamborghini screw up the Gallardo, I'm gonna print out a picture of the Cala, fly to Italy, and make 'em eat it. This car is suitible to be an entry-level Lambo... The Murcielago Barchetta has given me some hope, however... |
| Must release! |

This car is still up to date! sure they could replace some of the curved lines with sharper ones... like angleing off the headlights... possibly sharpening afew of the lines for the air intakes. But this car doesnt even need that. If you go to http://www.lambocars.com you can see many more pics of this car, and it wasnt until i went there that i realised how great this car could have been! its more modern than the ferrari 360 range, yet it was made in '95! Ital design is great for making this car, and it should be released, or at least a changed version (but not to changed i doubt it needs hardly any work at all) Possibly they could aim at getting more out of the engine, if they got this car to go from 0-100 in 4.5secs and around 300km/h and sould it for cheaper thant the 360 range (like lamborghini probably would have) it would sell like hotcakes... at least i would think so. The car is a little outgoing, even moreso than the murcielago, but thats what lambo's have always been like... i hope they aarnt taking a new approach because of audi i seriously do... because the murcielago looks a bit to refined to me (mainly the back) Lamborghini need to get back to their outgoing designs, and this is the car to do it.... One thing though... spoilers arnt always as popular these days, i love them, but this car was designed to have a rear spoiler, the way the back slopes up and all.. if they did make this car now im sure they would change that and make the spoiler optional, i love rear spoilers most of the time but i can really see that cars dont have to have them to look great anymore. Please release this car!! i know im begging to knowone, but with the money power lamborghini now have they can go ahead with projects like this one.... and i truely think this would have more selling potential than the 'small murcielago' coming out...people want variation... not just 10's of different slightly different versions of the same car like the diablo.....i love the diablo my fav car but they diddnt need all those versions of it they could have made another car like this (which they were going to) instead of so many aulterations of the one car. |

I can only tell you that audi is not responsible for the launch of this cala, they simply were not in charge of lamborghini yet !! anyway, lamborghini is creating a new, smaller model than the murcilago, so they can compete with the ferrari 360, porsche GT3, ... |
| the glorious cala |
| phanteratigris 4-11-2002 |
"The cala was buildt by the designhouse called italdesign. This is a fully drivable prototype becouse usually italdesign works that way.The cala wasnt designed to be a new ""top of the line"" lambo.many people think so,but its wrong.Lamborghini wanted to have a car in the Ferrari 355 segment,so this was ment to be an opponent to that car! When you compare the car in that segment its performans stands even for today against the 360 modena. The modena has 400 hp today 7 years after the cala. so with the development of 7 years the cala would be a devestating car today and would probably outperform the modena, but thats a hypotetic question. Have you thought of how many greatlooking and cool prototypes italdesign have buildt.Think for instance of the neverseen and agressive ALFA ROMEO SCHIGEERA.In my eyes the coolest car ever buildt.Imagine seeing it in your rear mirror. It probably would horror you with its great and aggressive front. Thanks for the world.""" |

I bet these 2 companies would have gone bankrupt by building the w12/Nardo and the cala. They want lots of sales and by the way both of them are not sportscar makers. they want lots of profits because they are going for majority by building the microbus and cancelling the cala. I agree thet this car is much more nicer than the crappy mutcielago beacuse this is a Giugiaro car man. Look at the history of lamborghini i bet none of those cars can match up with the design of the cala but think, those cars were not designed by Giugiaro they were designed by lamborghini cheif designers. And the L140's front looks exactly like the cala's front. I really do, not know what in the world is happening now but lets wait and see. maybe they cancelled the car because they found problems with the engines (V10) and this car is really slow also. Nobody at that time would have wanted to buy this car they would have all ran to the F50 which came out exactly the same time. This design is still better then the F50(maybe not after second thought) but it is just not right!! right!!! |
| this nice because....... |
| motorhead 26-10-2002 |
it is designed by the designer of the 20th century Giugiaro not because of any of those companies there. He is just the ultimate designer but luckily they cancelled the production of the car becaude i do not think that V10 would do very well. By the way this is not lamborghinis idea it is italdesign and what the hell is lamborghini thinking? They should have done a major diablo facelift and then the murcielago, not put this car in production. Thats how smart Herbert Demel(CEO of audi) is. And with the help of Piech i thought they did the right thing!! |
| Beauty, and the beasts... |
| IBrake4Rainbows 25-10-2002 |
Audi, shame on you, unless the new l140 ( think small murcielago) looks like this, then your occupaton of this small italian firm is a waste of time! Still, this sort of thing happens all the time in the car industry, witness such beauties as the Alfa Romeo Brera, being not even considered. To the apparent style leaders (witness the TT) Audi, i wish you boils. |
| not really |
| ralliart77 25-10-2002 |
i admit that the cala was designed by Italdesign but it was not just a design study. Despite what people think ,the Cala was originally to go into production as a replacement for the Diablo but I think it was to play the role that the Stella is to take on from 2004. All said and done though, decomissioning this design was a mistake and the automotive industry has lost a gem of a car. |
| What a Waste |
| hotflank 25-10-2002 |
Really...this is a really beautiful car by Lamborghini,Audi and ItaliaDesign. It's a pity that they cancelled plans to make this car but there are rumours going on that the next car Lamborghini are gonna build after the L140(Stella or Gallardo)(watever they wanna name it) this car's gonna go into prodution...but the car will will be redisned just a litle bit...but they are gonna change the whole interior. They may also make this car a 2+2 which i think is more practical |
| Its not a lamborghini |
| Peter 25-10-2002 |
Lamborgini did not design this car. Italdesign in cooperation with some of lamboghini did. That is the sole reason why it never saw the roads |
| If this were the murceilago...... |
| ralliart77 24-10-2002 |
Anyone here play Need For Speed II?? Speaking for myself atleast, when this game was introduced into the market of hungry, vicious individuals like me who beleived that getting behind the wheel of a superexotic was one level higher than being given a shot of testosterone, a childhood fantasy was fulfilled. Well... almost. I must admit though that the Mclaren F1 was ,is and will always be my favourite, but in all honesty, I would give full points for design to this car. Smooth lines blending into corners, the high rising C-pillar, the high placed rear-end, all of which adding upto just one word...Exquisite(DROOOOOL...). If I was a commoner and would see the F1 and the Cala side by side, I would be tempted to believe that the Cala would indeed be more superior in every way. Period. But i guess this just wasnt meant to be. This design got shot down just as the Canto and probably a few more( which most of us just arent aware of) and it gave rise to the Murceilago. Definately not a bad shape but makes one wonder what if the cala was indeed the murceilago??? |

This car had style and substance, those who were responsible for cancelling this beautiful car should hang their heads in shame. |
| damn audi |

"i remember readin something on the 1999 diablo design, i saw pics and all, saying ""audi wants this design"" and i thought it was one of the ugliest cars i've ever seen!""" |
| Amen! |
| Unknown 18-8-2002 |
"I totally agree with you! First, Mr. Piech canceled the Lamborghini ""Canto"", and instead built that crappier-looking Murciehlago. He then canceled the Cala, and now Lamborghini are building a car that could have been the cala, but they are calling it the Stella (aka L140) and it looks like crap compared to this. *sigh*""" |
| Screw Audi! |
| escalade_189 18-8-2002 |
What is up with Audi and the rest of the Volkswagen group?! First, the cancelled the W12/Nardo, instead building that stupid Microbus. Then, Audi cancels the look of the Avantismo concept on the new A8. I could stand that, but not the Cala. The Cala is one of the most beautiful Lamborghinis that I have ever seen, and Audi cancels it! What's up with that?! |
