First of all it is funny you should mention how the current style, you feel, is 'disgusting', and then you mention a company like TVR! You just found a company that makes even more hideous cars! Secondly, why stop marketing it as a sports car if it is selling so well, as a sports car, and is definitely an edge up on the competition being a hard-topped roadster and a V8 - yes lets see how much a Porsche or BMW weighs when they add all the extra weight for those two key components. But, it is to heavy you say! Yes, it is heavy. However you are forgetting that this is a Mercedes, and as such has all their years of safety engineering adding to the weight. Since it is a sports car, there is more chance of a crash. If you are more likely to crash, it is better it be a bit heavier and save your life! If a crash was to occur, I would much rather be in an SLK than a Boxster, a 3 Series, or god forbid a TVR which would represent death for all. Also, it doesn't matter that it weights 1500kgs if it has a V8 with the same torque as a Lamborghini V10
Great, but doesn't it mean the opposite?

Isn't SL supposed to stand for Sport Leicht (sport light)? I simply fail to find the "lightness" of this car. V8? Fine, that weighs something...but with 2 doors, 2 seats in a package that size, there is NO reason for the bloody thing to weigh almost 1500 kilos! Frankly, MB should not market this as a sports car at all - when weight has increased to that level and only brute engine power substituted in to make 0-60 times, the very name "sports car" has been clearly abandoned. On the other hand and while their styling disgusts me, TVR makes lightweight V8 SPORTS CARS, not 1500 kilogram leaden 2 seaters. Simply put, a car with less power but a hundred kilos lighter will blast the doors off this "thing."
