| why EV's never have gears |

Supposedly EV's never have gears because they have enough torque to not need them. That's an excuse! The real reason is that there is TOO MUCH torque for normal gearboxes so noone wants to bother with the beefy gearbox that would be needed because of the extra weight. So then all these 1 geared EV's have neither stellar acceleration, nor stellar top speed. It's a lame compromise in between. Like the Tesla roadster which used to have 2 gears that kept breaking. Now it only has one gear. If an EV is gonna have no gears it might as well have a motor in each wheel so at least it's "prodigal" at something. |
