the car 0-60 is incorrect, road and track magazine tested the cars 0-60 at 3.3 seconds but if you put a person in the car who knows how to drive the S7's 0-60 is aboout 2.9 seconds. My car is # 25 lizstick red. |
| Saleen S7 Handling |
| Bl00Dr1V3 8-7-2004 |
"I'm reading this straight from EVO magazine, a British car magazine which usually doesn't have american car's. Whoever said the handling sucked, listen to this comment by a professional driver who drove this car: ""The motion is disconcerting at first, but I recognise the beauty of downforce when I blast through what should be a white-knuckle sweeper, and the car doesn't deviate or betray a hint of a drift. It feels like it's planted to the pavement by the hand of God."" That quote should be enough to explain how well this car handles. Oh, and by the way, it has 550 hp, but you can get an option that increases it to 625 hp." |
| i dont know |
| ATC 26-11-2003 |
I cant say i like this car. people say this car is the best of its kind, but i would rather have a Murcielago than this. Also people say how hey got this much power out of a V8. You should e asking the same question to Koenigsegg as they got an extra 105bhp out of their V8. Also with it hitting 220mph doesnt rival the F1 but beats the Enzo, as the Enzo's maximum speed is something like 215mph and the McLaren F1 is around 240mph. Also never forget the Jaguar XJ220, so many people forget this car, as it held the worlds top speed until the great McLaren F1 came along. I think the XJ220 and the S7 should be compared more often. |
| recent tests |
| DwZX35 2-8-2003 |
this car is incredible, one of my favorites, recent testing shows it to get up to 220 mph! Acceleration recorded recently from 0-60 is 3.3 seconds, rivaling the Enzo and F1, but far from the Veyron's 2.9 0-60 |

"If ur looking for trust worthy specs u have hard facts on... check out this months issue of Car & Driver, or last months (maybe 2 months ago, not sure) issue of Road & Track. As to the whole question with the V8. It's a 427ci small block, roughly 7.0 leters; devide that by eight and u got u displacement per cylenders right there. As to why a V8 in this traditionally V12 segment... I think Saleen explained his reasons best when he said ""What kind of American supercar would it be if it didn't have a pushrod V8?""" |
| Quick Question... |
| Subwoofa 23-6-2003 |
For such a fast car, why are there only 8 cylinders? I wonder what the size of each cylinder is, i would atleast excpect this car to be the average V12 with its speed and looks, rather confusing is it not? And all this input that everyone is putting about it's specs is very confusing too, i beleive someone should really make the offcial specs in one of their comments... |
| Zev |
| Black_Sunshine 19-6-2003 |
Hey Zev, even with the down force. Saleen has said that with the proper gearing this car is capable of 240mph. If I'm not mistaken several magazines have already said that it's top speed is actually rev limited. |
| Top speed limited by drag |
| Zev 8-6-2003 |
The top speed is limited by drag, not gearing as someone stated. The more downforce you have the more drag you are going to get from those surfaces that create that downforce, and if it has as much downforce as some people say it has, then thats quite a bit of drag. |

very impressive...nice car especially when it separated the sea of cars with Jim Carey driving it!!!hehe |
| too bad people can't marry cars. |
| zulutree 30-5-2003 |
This is my dream car. The sleek body and 64 vents make it, in my opinion, the iest machine ever to grace the planet. If only cars were people...I'd - well, you know what I'm saying. -A.P. Norman |
| Well, just to point out... |
| Gnafu the Great 16-5-2003 |
Why does everyone think this is 575hp? The official site itself says 550hp. And as for the $375,000 price, the only certified dealer that showed a price on the net said $395,000 and Pop-Sci said $395,000 when it first came out. This is a sweet car, but I'd rather have an Ultima GTR or something. One thing about this, it would be the ultimate representation of the Spy Hunter car if they made a movie. Also, just to let you know, I signed up here just to tell you this. It's 550hp and $395,000! |
| This is all wrong! |
| Godzila32 6-5-2003 |
This is a 427 big block. It is special built by Saleen Motorsports. Ford had nothing to do with S7, only Mustang Saleens. It is designed in Germany and assembled in Van Guy, CA. The transmission is a straight cut ZF 5 speed. $300 grands is not in my price range. |
| fmboss429 |
| BlackSunshine 26-4-2003 |
Your wrong. It's not the 4.6/281. That is the same block as a 302 and you can only bore & stroke it to about 330-335 cubic inches. After that the cylinder walls get too thin. This is a 351 block. Bored and stroked to 427 cubes (7.0 liters). Get ur facts streight man. |
| SHUT UP |
| keener1605 25-4-2003 |
Saleen built that entire engine except for the block. its a 7.0 liter engine and has over 500hp and 500 lb tq. The S7 was mad specifically for racing. everything on it was designed light and placed in specific places to balance the car out perfectly. the body is also one of the most aerodynamic bodies every made. Saleen put a lot of time and money into this car and thought into the parts, including the entire carbon fiber body, to make this one of the BEST SUPERCARS EVER!!!! unarguably |
| It's a 4.6 liter |
| fmboss429 19-3-2003 |
The s7 is a 4.6 liter motor. or 281 cubic inches. I you know anything you'd know that these motor are cabable of making up to and beyond 1300 hp! That's plenty big in my opnion. |
| Very Nice But Could Be Better |
| XR SICK 9-1-2003 |
This car is nicest looking american car but the engine could be better like a 3.6L V8 Twin Turbo or stick with the displacement but add an extra 4 cylinders. |
| it aint a ford Subwoofa |
| BlackSunshine 4-1-2003 |
"The ONLY thing ford about the engine is the block they start with. After that's bored, Saleen puts all his own stuff on it... It's a Saleen motor, not a Ford. The only reason he chose the 351 block as a starting point is because he can get them cheap due to his dealings with Ford already. That's all. The Saleen Mustangs, arn't really Fords either. Saleen has technically been car manufacturer for quite a few years now; and is classified as such by the EPA, IRS, and other manufacturers. After all the work that goes into one of those cars, there's not much Ford left. Saleen provides the Warrenties and does the financing. And as for the price, consider it a McLaren for less than 1/2 the $1 mil tag on the F1, cause if you request the proper gearing it'll go just as fast if not faster.""" |
| Whoa |
| Subwoofa 3-1-2003 |
This car is f***in beautiful!!! Jeez, look at it. I think it resembles the McLaren F1. And what really surprises me is the fact that a FORD powers it. The top speed is really surprising aswell. Either way, I don't think anyone would buy this car either, look at that tag. If I wanted a Saleen, i would pick up a mustang. |
| its better than you think |
| navySEAL78 14-11-2002 |
thats such bull that you say it doesnt handle like a super car... have you ever drove one, i bet not buti have. my cousin bought one and we took it to a private track that he is subscribed to and we got it going 171 or something close to it we were worried more about the place the car was going than its speed but still it took the turns better than the diablo they used to have. also we took it on a road and through this canyon where the speed limit went from 75 to 55 and we still took the turns fine at 80+. o and the C12S is nice, my cousins neighbor has one... but i would still take the S7 its faster, looks nicer handles alot better(my cousin tells me). the only thing that i think could have been better is a V12 instead of the 8, its nice and still has good performance but the power and torque of a 12 would make a huge difference but other than that i love this car its so nice and if you ever get a chance to drive one you will change your mind about how nice they are |
| second rate? |
| BlackSunshine 21-10-2002 |
Dude, this design debuted before the Carrera GT from Porche. And as to your comment about a second rate engine, well, you my friend are obviously unaware of the true stats on this engine. First off, the HP figure on the page are incorrect, try 575hp. If your thinking this is just a transplanted Ford crate motor, you obviously don't know jack about this car. The only the ford about this engine, is the block (at least when it starts). This is a small block 427, starting off life as a Ford 351 engine block. He bores and strokes to 427c.i. Then good ol' Steve put on new heads, new EVERYTHING creating an engine made solely for this purpose. It's got a high redline which is revs to encreadably fast. Knowing Steve Saleen it's probably encreadably reliable as well. The S7R has already prooved it's self in the ALMS. Saleen is more than just an after market tuner who decided to make a car from scratch. Steve Saleen has actually been classified as a producer of automobiles for quite a while. A Saleen mustang is almost intirely assembled in his faccilities and he provides all the warranties and what not. This car is nothing short of a first rate super car. From sheet metal to motor. It's probably one of the purist supercars out there. Hell, this is the closest you can get to driving a GTS class LM car on the street (the Enzo uses F1 tech. not LM). SEcond rate? I think not. |
| Nice Car but................ |
| porschecrazy 7-10-2002 |
this car can't be compared to the Porsche Carrera GT it has almost the same styling but they added touches of their own saleen wasted this car by making a beutiful design but throughing in a second rate engine ley get real V8 |
| Amazing |
| Zak5 7-10-2002 |
I love the S7 it is the greatist. If I had to pick any car in the world the S7 would be it. Good speed. Great looks even if it is expensive. if I had the money I would defanatly get it. |
| Just shows you what a comedienne and nerd can build!!! |
| fox11971 9-9-2002 |
Hey guys, i have to tell you that i have never sat in one or even next to one...but i did have the pleasure of representing Saleen cars in the north texas area for a year and a half...my factory rep DID drive the s7 and the s7R on their test track and said that the toughest part was that he knew the car could OUT DRIVE him!!! the downforce according to him is greater than 3 ton at 168mph and can literally drive upsidedown accelerating and outhandling a viper while being upsidedown!!! Steve S. if you are reading this call Michael T. cuz i'd be willing to TEST this fact...Heck Tim A. if you want you can ride shotgun and tell your children...sincerely fox!!! |
| The Saleen S7: Turning Heads 180 Degrees. |
| EnzoFerrari 30-8-2002 |
I agree with Black Sunshine on the S7, it is really a good example of the power that America can produce in their supercars. A friend of the family recently aqquired an S7, and it has been geared to top out at around one hundred and thirty five miles an hour. When driving around in it, we would pull up next to Lamborghinis and Ferraris, but the Saleen still got the most attention, and stayed ahead of every other performance car on the freeway. It is great that the Mclaren has managed to stay in the top ten fastest cars for so long, but people need to start reliazing it isn't the fastest car anymore. Truly a terrific car... |
| wont compete? |
| BlackSunshine 7-8-2002 |
With the right gearing this car can is capable of over 240 miles an hour. And if you request it, they'll do it. As to why don't I buy something british? Cause as of right now, nothing British can compete. Why not Itallian? Cause the Italians have gone soft. The expeirience is no longer the no compromises, pure performance that it once was. As to handeling, you obviously haven't read anything about this car, and I know for a fact you've never drivin one. To me it sounds like your own of these guys who's made the McLaren the end all be all to cars. Well it's not. Hell... this has all that performance... more style... and you don't need a manual (yes it comes with this) to learn how to get in and out of the freakin thing. Never mind the fact that it's also less than half the price. The McLaren is about 6 years old now... and people are doing bigger and better things. Hell... it's top speed has already been beaten by several cars. AMERICAN AT THAT!!! So just consider this... then consider the successes they've had with the AMLS. Like I said... your just afraid the McLaren might fall. |
| i would take |
| Armstrong 7-8-2002 |
for the price of this supercar i would get the new Porsche Carrera GT. In a comparison test against each other the GT would win in every catagory. |
| oops |
| sniyper 7-8-2002 |
$375,000... no way in hell. I'd buy a Lamborghini. or 35 ford escorts :) |
| me |
| sniyper 7-8-2002 |
"no way, dude. The S7 is ...""ordinary"" in the supercar world. I mean, for that much money, why don't you buy something British ... or Italian? $200,000 is a little much for me for an American Car. They (""car critics"") say that it's supposed to play with the Mclaren. no. no it doesn't. It's in the same class as the Pagani Zonda C12 and the Koensiegg (sorry about spelling) CC. America has supercars that go fast in a straight line, not for handling.""" |
| Who sais american can't do supercars? |
| BlackSunshine 7-8-2002 |
"Talk about givin a dog a bone, this car is gorgeous. I love this thing, the stats here are for the prototype version. The horse power on the final car (first 2-3 already delivered) is 575bhp, with a better power to weight ratio than the Murcielago, 575M, Vangwish, Zonda C12 S, or the up coming SLR and Carrera GT. Some one once told me American's can't build super cars. To them, I give you this. Not only did it go from idea to reality in near record time, but IT'S ALL AMERICAN TOO. It's got amaizing curves, gorgeous lines, and looks absolutely stunning from every angle. This is what supercars are about in the most pure sence of the term. It's got styling that'll turn more heads than gun shot. It's low, it's wide, it's long, and looks like it's moving 100mph parked on the street. IT's got a 575 horse power monster mounted in the middle right behind the the driver. It spares no expence of quality but makes no false claim about it's entensions. While the Lamborghini's have been tamed, this is a balls to the wall, all out performance machine. It's an exhaust system and a stripped out enterior away from a GTS class Le Man's car. With steering reported to be so precise that it's recomended that even the most expeirience performance car owner/driver take it easy before he starts to really drive the car. It doesn't have ABS, it doesn't have traction control, it's got 4 wheels, a big @$$ motor, race car handeling, and aerodynamics that are so unreal. When asked about TC Saleen said ""who needs traction control when you have downforce?"" This is one of the last true SUPERCARS. This is so race oriented that it would even amaze the late great Enzo Ferrari. To those of you who loved the Diablo for it's sheer visceral expeirience (exspecially the GT) and feal that the raging bull (Lamborghini) lost the rodeo, I give you the Saleen. """ |
