| A little history about Tatra |
| ssilvik 14-1-2003 |
"Tatra made some very interesting cars over the course of the 20th century. Their mainstay car was always a rear engined, air cooled 8 cylinder engined sedan. Having grown up in Slovakia I can tell you this car was legendary. Tatra was the ""CzechoSlovakian Rolls-Royce"". Luxurious, exclusive and almost always black. I read once in a book on the history of Porsche that Ferdinand and Tatra colaborated a lot and bounced ideas off of eachother. The closest relative to a 356/911 is in reality a Tatra! Being a very heavy car with rear wheel dirve and a very powerfull engine it oversteered at the limit much like a 911. Not very forgiving at high speed maneuvers. Because of this durring the German invasion of Czechoslovakia in WWII Hitler's high ranking troops weren't alowed to drive Tatras because too many of them were wrapping these cars around trees and killing themselves. They were among the most intriguing cars of all time. The more you learn about them the more interesting they are.""" |
