Why should we Appreciate the W8

As soon as i laid eyes on this car in late 2003, i knew it was more then just something VW had produced. I first caught a glimpse of this car at a red light in brooklyn, it was night time and i was behind it...i noticed that it was a Passat but what was more evident was the 4 chrome exhaust tips that stood out, and a weird W8 badge on the back, the light turned green and it took off rather quickly. I came home and typed in "W8" and it sent me to VW's site and explained to me what the W8 is. Why we should all Appreciate this car is because its nothing the car industry has ever seen, like all VW's they tend to make things complicated, like the invention of using 5 valves a cylinder, and VR6 style engines, The W8 is a powerful 4.0 litre W shaped engine configuration, which means the cylinders are opposed and fit in such a way that if you look overhead the top looks like a giant W..not only is this strange, but beneficial because they focused on how smooth the engine would be compared to sheer power, it only creates 270Bhp with 277Lbs of torque and for a 8 cylinder engine its not much compared to a Lexus GS430 and a 540i BMW, but the concentration was on power delivery and "butter-smooth" acceleration and idle. The W8 is matched to 4Motion AWD which also improves handling and being able to go nuts in bad weather conditions with the help of an extra added ESP ($430) which will help detect slipping, or abnormal driving position. The W8 was short lived because people couldnt stomach a 40k Volkswagen when they had 2 other engine choices for thousands less...but the reason why i am writing this is because the W8 had done something that no other car has been able to do, and thats set its self apart from the crowd, meaning you wont see this car at every corner, every red light, at every parking lot and that to me has ment more then anything any car manufacture has done, ive seen this car twice since its release in 2002 and id honestly say its rare. The best part about it is...you can get it in a 6spd manual! another great offering from VW, you can pound the clutch and slip it into any gear and take off with your head plastered to the back of the seat, ive driven 2 automatics and a 6spd and both have equal amount of punch that can definitely take the quickest modified 330i on the road. Living in a state that has seasons and snow storms, AWD isnt such a bad idea..and thats another great gift from our friends at VW. On the inside of the W8, you'll find everything to be exactly where your hands can reach, every button and switch is at your finger tips, and not to mention the dashboard reads 180mph clearly outlined in chrome rings around the instrument guages, at night the HID's light up the road ahead, and the electro-blue dash gauges keep you wondering why every car doesnt have this, the only exterior difference is slight, but noticeable the Quad-exhaust tips and the front grill displays the W8 insignia as well as the rear trunk lid with the 4Motion logo. The only package offered is the sports package which offers multi-spoke rims and upgraded suspension which is firm and tight, definitely able to feel the different between non-sport tuned models when taking heavy turns.
Its something that ive thought about, and knew that this car is offering more "car" then other models in its class...plus its limited since its been discontinued, and for somebody who wants to break away from everybody else, the W8 will be a choice you wont regret, plus its extremely fast!
