le mans 1989: 3 cars not 2. |

As usual and expected, the Sauber C9 article is highly professional and entertaining. If I may, the team line-up for the 1989 Le Mans included 3 cars, not 2: No.61 with Mauro Baldi, Kenny Acheson & Gianfranco Brancatelli, No.62 with Jean-Louis Schlesser, Jean-Pierre Jabouille & Alain Cudini and the winning No.63 driven by Jochen Mass, Manuel Reuter & Stanley Dickens. |
Fabulous 'Watershed' Car |

A marvellous car that pulled both Peter SAUBER and MERCEDES into F1. From all angles it looks so visually good and perfect for LM Endurance racing, was fuel frugal, went like a bat outta hell and remained beautifully balanced for cornering. The perfect endurance weapon. It is one of the champion cars included in PS2 game "Gran Turismo 4", perhaps THE car. It sounds amazing [they recorded its actual sound] and after a few easy tuning tweaks is so easy to drive it is unbeatable on the Games old and new versions of the LE MANS cicuit. Truly an unforgettable and very important car and thanks for an impressive article listing its development and history. |

I was in France summer of 89 and was priviledged enough to witness the unbelievable speed of the C9 going down the Mulsanne at Le Mans. The sound of the M199 engine is beyond words.. To see and hear those huge KKK turbos on full boost is truly breathtaking. Watching the event that day(and night) one only knew who the victor would be. However Hans Stuck in his pink Porsche 962 was also a front runner. Amazingly the Jochen Mass C9 finished the race jammed in a single gear(4th or 5th I believe). The immense torque from the M199 engine was notorious for chewing up those Hewland gearboxes.. |

Who has ever seen this car? i have and it is about the nicest sounding thing i have ever heard. i saw the car at Goodwood festival of speed, and this car did it for me. i mean you can feel the ground vibrate as it comes past. this truly is one outstanding car that looks like it came from 1999 and should have been challenging the toyota gt1's at lemans not 1987! this car is amazing. |

Too bad MB didn't make a street version of this car! It has beautiful lines. Very stylish for the mid-to-late 1980s. |
