The SL55 AMG is a near perfect machine with gorgeus lines and a howling monster under the beautiful bonnet. The V8 is incredible, especially on this AMG hand-tuned version. |

I was told by a mercedes customer services line that the latest CL65, losing its covers in the autumn (at least in Europe) is going to have its ridiculous 612hp engine squeezed into the SL for summer 2004. The nice lady said it was unconfirmed as yet but that it was scheduled. 738lbs of torque - thats similar to a space shuttle - no i think they have less - and are not quite as sophisticated in the elctronics department. The world is playing catchup to mercedes - not just the car industry! |

I totally agree with Black sunshine- check out my comments on the forthcoming SL600- why not an AMG SL600??. come on AMG- As for the sl55 - to my surprise, ive seen two sl55's back to back in public, one in silver and one in black in a car park- silver just about gets my vote, however, navy is the classiest colour, black is most sinister. Silver is somewhere in between. To my eyes, it IS the best looking car currently on the road -the 360spider is also stunning in that mettalic light blue but i feel is too prone to envy marks to be an everyday proposition in a city environment. I should be given a drive in the sl55 some time next month (when they take delivery) so ill spill more then. PS can anyone out there give me feedback on an SL Brabus K8? - didnt think so. PPS rumours of a lmited German-only S/CL65 AMG with 600BHP appears to be a future reality- anyone know if this is true/possible for the SL? If not, why not! |

Now this is ONE HECK of a mercedes! The design is so perfectly work thrue, and the fact that it is an AMG makes this to the BEST mercedes EVER... I would actually go so far to say that it is almost as perfect as the Ferrari 360 Spider (check my comment). The Mercedes SL55 AMG is the most realistic dream car of my mind (but that is because it is aproximatly half the price of the Ferrari 360)!! |

This is truly a brilliant car! Did you lot know j clarkson bought one over a ferrari, cant remember which model though. If i was to buy either this, BMW M5 or the Audi RS6 i would take this one! i agree i is a great sounding car but unfortunately nothing can beat the sound of a tvr! |

I know, I just read that earlier today, FINALLY a return to what it should be. To me, you can't truely call it the top of the line with out the V12. It's just got more soul to it than the AMG, and that makes up for a lot. On top of that, the sound of a V12 could give a dog a bone. |

This is easily Mercedes-Benz AMG's best ever car and on of my all time faves! The amount of technology that has gone into this car is astounding and I wonder how it would feel to do 202mph in a car that weighs nigh-on two tonnes. Those who hear it will agree that this is one of the nicest sounding cars in the world. |

I do like the car but i rather have a bodykit on it from like carlsson, mariani, or kleemann. It mikes it faster and beater looking. Whith out a kit i would give it **.hafe stars but whith i give ****.hafe stars. |

In Germany the SL600 will shureley be released, with the 5.5l litre biturbo V12 engine of the Maybach/S600/CL600. There are 3 kinds of limiters for the SL500/55/600 (The SL350 V6 doesn?t need one): The standard 250 km/h limiter, the special (nearly 90% ordered in Germany) 300 km/h limiter (That?s the highest for the 500, which doesn?t reach 300 km/h) and a race setting without limiter, including broader wheels and the F1 Pace Car style from MB designo. And the SL55 now has the Evo II Package which boosts his power to 493 bhp, I don?t know if it?s sold with the Evo II in other countries allready, but it shureley will. |

This is one of the greatest peformace vehicles that germany has ever produced. the precision of engineering just makes this a dam good car. looking back to around march 2002 i was sitting near the pit exit at the Australain formula one Grand prix and as the SL55 amg safety car was taking off during those well publicised collisions i couldn't believe how nice is sounded and how well the thing took off. the safety car is probably modified but never the less a great car. |

This car is easily the best Benz I've ever seen. The technology employed all over this car is amazing, like a BMW 7-series, only you don't have to do anything, all the shiny new features let you drive like a maniac, and let you take the credit for not killing yourself. That's what I like in a car. |

It's cool that Mercedes-Benz finally announced the price on this car. The base price is going to be around $110,000 with a fully loaded version topping out at no more than $120,000. And remember, this is for the AMG version, so you can only think to imagine how cheap the base version will be. |

Personally I find the masterpieces of the automotive world much more satisfying than those of the ""art"" world (though as with everything it is a matter of taste). It is disheartening to hear dealers commanding over odds prices, however, one has to realise that if they did not the first buyer would. Perhaps Ferrari's approach is the way to go, a select list of the few ""true"" passionate owners. But it seems that this is the most that we'll get from the Merc boys. At least they took the time to make a fabulous car in the SL55. Maybe the CL600 will satisfy thaose with a need for a 6 Litre V12 fetish. |

ok, I've been wanting to know this for a while now. Is mercede's ganna put out an SL600 or not? They used to make em all the time but with this new body style they haven't added one to the line up yet. I WAN'T AN SL600 damnit, I like V12's. I've had the pleasure of driving an older SL600 and I would love to see a new one. Ecspecially now that they've given the V12 more power. And why not an AMG version of the V12? I'm pretty sure they could get some where in the area of 600hp. Now that would be a bad@$$ car. |

This is one of the nicest cars in the world. It is much nicer than the BMW Z8 and many Ferrari's. I cannot wait until the 600 comes out. Mercedes Benz is doing a phenominal job. 493 hp, one of the world's five fastes cars, 200mph!!!! WOW!!! |

since u own a ferrai moonR u probably also know how much the F360 spider is selling for. 300,000 dollars...r they kidding?? I mean comeon guys, wheres the ethics. Honestly where i stay in NY u cant even drive fast, so what sence does it make owning a car like that anyway. This again is true with MB dealers too. A friend of mine traded in his E420 for a CL500. He got lucky. But ive heard of ppl payin a heavy premium for models like those.As if they dont cost enough already, plus the insurance, why does anyone want problems like that. I mean buy a camry and be happy. |

well what can we say mercedes pulled out another great sl and we must say this has been their most successful model for like 50 years anyway great performance but still maybe a little too heavy i mean it has 500 kgs more than a porsche or a ferrari come on guys well other than that this is a car i would die to have but still the price tag seems a little high(i might as well get a porsche i mean) |

When I read about this car, I tried to place an order with the dealer that I bought my E55 and ML500 from. This car should make my 355 feel like a 911. Sorry no can do, I was told. The list price is supposed to be around 120K, but the street price when delivered will probably be closer to 200K. My dealer said they will get maybe 2 cars this year, so they will sell it for whatever the market will bear. This is from the largest volume MBZ dealer in the country. Sure the market drives the price, but price gouging by any dealer gives me a bad taste. To not take an order from a repeat customer is bad business. I absolutely refuse to pay a cent over MSRP, so I guess I'll wait and go elsewhere. |

this car is tops not only is it faster than most ferraris, but it also is discreet to park it most places, it oooooooozes class.....and i heard it sounds like a cam am race car! and if you were to buy one, YOu CAN have the limiter off, but the tyres are only rated to 180mph, - just talk to AMG about it when are brabus going to do a modified SL? |

This two tonne luxury crusier does 0 - 300 faster than a Murcielago. It has a fricking low cw and is just insanly fast. You can thank the guys at AMG for that. The 5.5 liter V8 which can be found in the old E-class amoung others is known for it's power. It isn't very convincing though as you look for horsepower but fact is that this is THE torque monster. The SL's supercharged V8 has all the caracteristics of it's predecessor. It costs well over a 100k, and if you buy this kind of performance car, why does it have a topspeed limiter!?! |
