| The Ultimate Chaparral |
| marvin67 07-22-2011 |
Of all Jim Hall's magnificent creations, the Chaparral 2F is perhaps the most complete, combining all of his concern's numerous innovations into one very seamless package. The composite chassis, moveable hub-mounted wing, automatic transmission, all-aluminum big-block Chevy, aero trim mechanism in the nose and hip-mounted radiators were all there in one nicely integrated unit. Unfortunately it was the one feature that Hall didn't design- the transmission- that repeatedly failed in races, costing the team any real chance at success until the last race of the 1967 season at Brands Hatch. Truly a beautiful piece of engineering. |
