760Li - why does it truely beat the S600?

This car cannot win in performance... it's competing with a bi turbo.. that's like weightlifting on steroids - you can't lose. But I bet you will die sooner! The 760Li is a car of beauty, it's interior had yet to be rivaled, until the release of the 2007 S600. Until the 2007 BMW rocked Benz in the large car market. The 7 was simply far superior to the S. More luxury, more everything. Well if you look at the back seat of the new S class - you will see the same features in the original 760li from 2003. I have always been an S fan, but fellaz when your beat, ur beat.
-760Li is simply a beast.
-S600 has it's place - of course 2007 rocks the socks of bmw.. but for a far greater price.

Thanks,
Salaam

I think that this new 7 series is a bomb, but not when the s class is still the world most luxury car in the world. BMW should check what they say about they been the 1'st car with a 7 speed auto-transmission, if u check out some of the cars that japan produce like the (1998 Nissan Bluebird that carries a Hyper CVT 6 speed automatic Transmission. They should really check out that

"I actually drove this car for about 45 minutes on the A30 near Melle, BRD last Monday 12 May. Although i was disappointed about the 760i that i drove in the last of March, this beautiful orientblue and leather nasca beige 760li was much better.i think the increased wheelbase does a lot to how it feels driving it at speeds of up to 260 km/h. And the Aktive Geschwindigkeitsregulierung is incredible to experience. I have driven the CL600 bi-turbo with it's 500 hp/800 nm engine, but if i had to choose between an S600L bi-turbo, with the same engine as the CL600 bi-turbo, or this 760Li, i'd take the last. It is true craftmanship, no turbo- or supercharged-engine.BMW has done a great job. The new 7-series looks more contemporary than the s-class. I already have the brochure of the new 5-series. I must admit; it is a lot of getting used to, just like the 7-series; but now i think the 7- and 5-series are beautiful cars. My current car is a BMW 523i EXE E39."

"Blaze the MB star on the hood isn't the known symbol of money and power, the ""B"" with wings or the ""RR"" on the hood are what show true sucess, I know college kids with Benz's and high school kids with BMW's don't try and degrade MB cuz you can't afford one. saying that MB drivers are ""snobs"" is a pretty bold statement. MB owners usually work very hard to drive one and probably wouldn't like to hear some opinionated fool who likes BMW but can't afford one, and thinks that the M5(which is old now) is the best thing to hit the road since a ferrari 250 GT. oh and saying that VW and MB are comparable in the S4 comments was the dumbest i've ever heard. advice, get a job buy that used 3 series i was telling you about in the other comments, better yet i'll buy you one if you shut up about BMW PLEASE"

Personally i think the E66 BMW 7 Series is one of the most amazing machines ever made. Sure the mercedes S600 has twin turbochargers and puts out tons of horsepower, but people still buy it only because of that little emblem on the hood. Mercedes are for snobs who like showing off their money, and they always have been the symbol of power and wealth. BMW is the symbol of motorsport and driving Excellence. Just look at the M5, I dont think anyone will dispute that the M5 is the greatest sedan ever made. Drop Twin turbos in the 760Li and im sure all you horsepower hungry Mercedes fans will switch sides.

motorhead: Here in Singapore, i see more owners who drive their own S-Class rather than new 7-Series owners who drive their own 7-Series. I see more 7-Series owners sitting at the back being chaffeured around. The BMW certainly looks imposing, and the way it looks still fascinates me (due to unfamiliarity of the car as well as it being the less popular luxury car between the pair). However, it still can't match the updated S-Class, especially in S600 form. I've heard that the BMW 760Li has particular slow steering when compared to the S600, and the S600 flows over badly-paved roads, the 7-Series chokes on them. What a shame. The iDrive is hopeless. Boy am i glad MB did not try the same thing, but both cars are still way behind Audi in terms of neatness and ergonomics. However, i would like to compliment the 6-speed automatic gearbox that is really really smooth, even smoother than the Merc's, pity about the nasty buttons on the steering wheel to shift up or down.

"Or should i rename you Audihead. the S-class, for all it's shortcomings, is still a vehicle i would get in the front of and drive, the BMW, and this is coming from someone 14, would baffle me, to the point where i'd be reaching for the Merc Keys. Version 2.0 of i-Drive will surely be better, but until then i won't pass judgement. and as for the A8, i'm sorry to say, because i am a fan of the A8, but it ain't in the same league badgewise. I read in a motoring publication something that i think is appropriate ""the Audi relys on it's technology to make up for the prestige shortcomings of the badge"". and you only need look at the resale value of the last A8 to give an examle of the skepticsm still surrounding the Four rings. Competition for it's Max level rep-catagory from the Phaeton won't help either, but sure will make for some exciting competition, considering they are both big Golfs with boots!"

Bmw needs a flagship motor, and this is it. They are trying to take a direct hit with the Mercedes S600. However, only keen BMW afficiandos will buy this car, because it is outclassed in every area by the Merc and even the new Audi A8. This new 7-series has been around for over a year, yet I hardly see one. Mercedes are still selling nearly 2/3 more s-classes. I have yet to drive the 7 series, but have heard the i-drive system is completely hopeless. Audi's command system works much better. Alas, have any of you people seen the price of a previous generation bmw 750il, 2 years old,w ith 40,000 miles ? they are dirt cheap, its a reminder that no one wants big bmw v12's. Bmw should make more coupes, starting with the 6-series, then make a rival to the cL.
 that really depends!!!

This car and the s-class may be in the same leugue but they are totally different beasts. The S-class is for people who are lazy, extreamly lazy, or scared to drive or they just have too much money but BMW aims for the total opposite. They go for people who are not lazy, willing to drive, have a lot of money but they always spend their money with a reason but the point is that mercedes buyers are looking for people who like cars but do not like driving but like to be driven around. BMW buyers are totally the opposite! They would like to get very personel with their cars and they love the feeling of turning the steering wheel and stomping as hard as possible on the pedal and getting what BMWs always give you in return. So the question is if this is a winner, deffinately if you are comparing it with the s-class but bring an A8 into the picture, the whole damn story changes!!!
Will this one be a winner?

While its stats are shy of it's Mercedes-Benz compeditor, the new 760Li looks to have a slighty different personality type in its demographic. The Price increase from the 745Li is quite suprising though, and this is supposedly BMW's answer to the S-Class, but will it be enough to put them higher on the podium, or will the 760Li be a blowout? Only time will tell...

may be BMW would sell even more cars when fitted out with an electronic device to turn on and off such nuisances as traffic lights and speed camera's.

o.k. this is less powreful than the s 55 amg, but the car actally produces 438 bhp, still not enough to compare with amg, but this is a normaly aspirated engine, amg needs to have a biturbo to make more power. this car is more luxurious than amg, its computer is perfect. more than 700 options, nearly 300 voice controled, and right now bmw is working on their latest sistem that allows owners of 7 class to turn on or off every electronic device in their home. this is way better than amg's s class.

The good news I was told is that the car can also be driven without using the Idrive, which means that it is an unnessary add-on. I liked the comments about the distraction value of the stereo, but I guess the navigation system can be considered as a good runner-up for distraction causes. There is simply too much stuff around in cars these days, weight increases by hundreds of kilo's, and the more there is, the bigger the chance that it will break down. It appears that cars like this and the A8 or S-Class and other clones, will ultimately be fitted with a robot that does the driving as well, so you can sit in the back or better still, stay at home.

"Any adept computer user will know of something known as shortcut keys, basically using the keyboard to navigate much quicker;ctrl+c ctrl+v as a simple example. I hope none of you use right click, scroll down left click for this function, it is ridiculously slow. And therein is the problem with the idrive. Would you swap your keybard for the buttons on your mobile. No, course you wouldn't (I hope). The longer you keep your eyes off the road, the more you risk an accident. I have been told that it can work very well, but my basic query is why get rid of perfectly good buttons and increase the risk of accident. In my opinion the stereo is always the worst offender in car design, not only do you have to reach for it (wheel changes excepted), but how many of you have never looked at it that little bit too long . . ."""

The i-Drive system is probably a breeze to use for the technologically avanced youth of today, but most people who are in fact comptuer literate also have very seriosu trouble with the unit! This car will not be boguth by youngsters because it's ugly, and by Older folk simply because it's both Ugly AND confusing. I congratualte you on managing to figure out the system so quickly, maybe you could run classes...

For all of those people who are having trouble with the iDrive, you guys must be idiots. I am 22 and drove a 745i an it took no longer than 5 minutes to master the iDrive. It makes intuitive sense to put all of the functions in one mechanism and I compliment BMW for making the next step forward in automotive technology.
 Apperance and Intimidation

The S-Class should win the comparo with the 760iL, simply because of it's technology not being able to baffle the consumer. But, when it comes to looks, the 7-series ( and it pains me to say this) wins by a mile. Why? simply because it has presence. go t any board meeting and you'll see many board members pulling up in staid limos, black with chrome. Then the chairman drives up in the 7-Series, and the intimidation soars! this car has presence simply because it is so daring, so ugly and so in your face. It may not be the resale choice, but it wins the looks front, for now. The S class looks positively pansy in comparison!

Now finaly there is the great compare of the flagships of Mercedes and BMW... And the winner is clear in nearly all aspects... The S600. Why? Because the S600 V12 is stronger, more silent, produces nearly no vibrations. The iDrive is shureley one of the worst mistakes BMW ever produced, no compare for the second generation of COMAND. The design... Hm, the S600 keeps on being elegant and now a bit more agile, it?s nothing special but it is beautiful I think. Worst you can say is: Boring. The 7 series is looking hm... Extravangant, I dont want to say more because that?s my point of view. The abilities on the road are shureley dominated by the AIRMATIC DC and the ABC of the S, there?s nothing the BMW could use against that perfection. Ok, the S600 consumes more fuel and is more expensive, that?s the only point for the BMW. The security chapter is again defenitely won by the S because it?s perfect electronic (SRS, ABC, ABS, ESP, PreSafe) works hand in hand with a complete set of airbags and a high crash resistance.

This new 7 from BMW is the foe of the s-class(Benz)all the rich guys go for the s-class with out much thought. But now it is not so easy: the s-class, or the 7? If I were that rich guy bying a luxury, car I would go for the E66 760Li. It is the bomb!

Yeah, the new BMW 760Li is really luxurious, yeah, great V12 inside the engine bay. But can you honsetly tell me you find this machine good looking? If you were rich and you bought this, you'd have to sit inside it, because you can't see the disfigured bodywork. and the long rear door doesn't help, either.
 How about this!!

obviously the 2003 S55 AMG beats the 760Li with its 100BHp difference its a great luxury car, but not enough to beat the S55AMG!!!

"this car is insane... a v-12 with infinently variable valve timing, meaning there is no need for throttle body because the throttle is cotrolled by how much lift is allowed at each intake valve. not to menton the hydrolically controlled anti-sway bar, the electronically controlled (infinently) variable shocks, and the electronic parking brakes. did somebody say ""overkill?"""""

Big cars a back, good, small cars have governed the market for too long and they are dangerous too. And V -12 engine, a secure fast car this in traffic. Only one minus with the new 7 series, it's not nice in design, you must get used to it. hope BMW make new sheetmetal fast, else a great. Would not hesitate to buy one. Hope BMW not will flip out when it comes to design in the future.
 What the!?!?!?!

I think that this car is too expensive, i doubt they will get any sales, instead the 745i will be in a more popular area and it will force the 760 out of production..
