Well, you do understand that the rules for the WRC saying a max of 2.0L is for the actual race car itself. The 2000 Production models of the WRX can have any displacement they want, but the rally Evolution models made for homologation and racing have to have the max of 2.0L. |

For the normal markets the WRC Sti comes as a two litre car. Only in North America a 2.5 litre version is sold, may be because of the emission rules. This is not a matter of cheating but of economic necessity. |

The WRC rules dictate that the maximum displacement on a WRC entry can be 2.0 liters. The production WRX sti has a displacement of 2.5 liters. Mitsubishi kept to the rulebook on the evo and the displacement on that vehicle is the maximum 2 liters. Subaru abandoned fair play and decided to boost displacement just to get the horsepower on the sti over 300. Mitsubishi claims 270 hp on the production evo and that's not bad for a factory tuned 2.0 inline. Shame on you subaru, cheaters. |
