"I hope this is the hatch version, and the Mazda3 comes as a ""normal"" wagon as well (a la the sedan/wagon/hatch variants of the Mazda6, and the current Protege5). Some people like the classic wagon look and utility (as opposed to these Civic/Focus/Vibe sort of things). Also, a coupe with suicide (""freestyle"" in Mazda-speak) rear mini-doors would completely rock my world! Just because the Ion is an ugly piece of crap doesn't mean it isn't a good concept!"

Looks like they're copying the Toyota Matrix. Have you seen the gauge cluster for the Sportif yet? It's an exact copy of the Matrix's
Mazda MX Sportif Will Not Be Sold in US

I wrote to Mazda North American Operations in California. I was trying to find out when the new car would be officially introduced, and commented that it would be a welcomed addition to the Mazda line. I received a letter from a Customer Assistance Specialist that the Mazda MX Sportif would not be sold in the US. Maybe people should write to Mazda an comment that they'd like to see the car in the US? Address is: Mazda North American Operations PO Box 19734 Irvine, CA 92623-9734 OR Mazda North American Operations 7755 Irvine Center Drive Irvine, CA 92618-2922

Living in the burbs of New York City there are very few cars that drive great, looks great, and puts the sport in SUV. The Mazda MX Sportif will be this year Jeep Liberty.
 I want one NOW!!!

I love the clean lines of this car. If they can bring this to market, improving the performance without messing up the handling of the Protege5, it will bring me to orgasm. Mazda's official response is that there isn't a target date for the introduction of this car in the US. Has anyone heard anything else?

In 1998, I saw a great picture of an MX model, with scuicide doors and a twin-rotor engine. Sound familiar? Yea, the RX-8 of 2003, which I still haven't seen on the road. So Mazda, I love what you're doing with the company right now, just don't take five years to put this thing on the market!
