    2 words: Build Quality.

Mercedes were caught out by lax build quality from their american factory, like BMW.

Maybe the Germans don't ride their staff as hard, because they have such a grip on their markets they can just scrape up some poop (1-series, for instance) and sell it for a premium, regardless of how bad it is.

Meh, Mercedes has been slipping for a while.

Wow. I like that Gauge design. Looks like something in a supercar.

Put it this way. When the NSX came out, Honda gave it its own small factory of about 200 of their best workers. It still stands there today. That may be different for the Acura NSXs though, even though all NSXS are supposed to be built there.

Could be something similar to how they turned a strike-happy and generally slack UK workforce into the most efficient car factories inthe world, building the best quality Japanese cars.

Who knows how they did it.
    Thanks for all the fish

The workers in for the German car makers are the highest paid in the world, (Funny fact, Australian 2nd).

Is it just me or are the new Mercs getting trashier and trashier?

I really don't like this car. If I want to go offroad, I buy a Defender, if not, I buy a car.

This new ML looks better than the old one, just. Let's just see if it goes any better.

Nope, you're not the only one. I'd say even up until '98 or 2000 they still made good cars (in fact, even I'd drive the previous generation S-class, that was a classy, reasonably comfortable, solid vehicle).

But as someone said (I forget who), it seems like they're leaning too heavily on their badge and not heavily on the name now. The E class (that's the midsize one right? dang alphanumerics) is actually okay at least as far as styling goes, but it seems to me the others have also lost a lot of that wonderful "Mercedes Presence", as well.
