JGTC cars' 1st run in California

First time in the States, the Autobacs JGTC series chose the California Speedway in Fontana to make some noise. Here are some pics I took over the weekend.

The Blue and yellow RX-7 (rear view) collected some tires at a chicane and didn't finish. The car was pretty much demolished. The section in question is pictured next. The Dodge Viper(in black) also ran in the GT300 class. The RX was attempting a pass on the inside, the door was slammed shut by a Viper, forcing the RX-7 to hit the first stack of tires. Totally out of control and badly damaged, it then proceeded to collect the second stack. Luckily, this was the only serious collision and I don't think the driver was hurt.

*Motion shots didn't come out clearly with my camera.

Day two. I lucked out as the pits were moved behind the infield stands. I got some pics of the temporary pits and witnessed the crews in action. The Gzox Nissan 350Z which won the GT500 class is pictured in the last pic.

Retired beauty. This Skyline didn't run in the race but a lucky person got a ride in it in a demo-run raffle. The driver didn't hold back and it showed as the 'lucky' passenger was wearing a open-face helmet.

It's a Autobacs Garaiya. Autobacs is a chain of automotive accessories stores in Japan. The Garaiya was was commissioned by Autobacs to be built in Norfolk, England. Built off the Tommikaira ZZ, the Garaiya has a mid-engine, aluminum and steel chassis. This year the Garaiya ran with the new 350Z's 3.5 liter NA engine.
