Anyway, this is what I know: recently when he started the engine rebuild, and because the piston heads have a particular shape that you don't find on other tuned Rover engines, he had contact with Mr. Tom Walkinshaw to seek for some help. Mr. Walkinshaw had the non-enthusiast approach and told my friend he couldn't help him, but offered to buy him the car as it was, after knowing it's chassis number. This must mean the car has some interesting history.
Thanks- that's certainly an interesting story...

It might be worth your friend talking to Ken Clarke of Ken Clarke Motorsport in the UK- he's ex-TWR and built several of the cars in the 80's- he posts from time to time on the ten-tenths forum, where we've been discussing the TWR Rovers, and might be able to help your friend with the history of his car. He doesn't have a website as far as I know, but I can probably track down an address

    Nissan BTCC in the 90s

Unless .... where are you located ( it's best to put your approximate location in your profile ). It's possible we've got a national naming difference ?

Unfortunately not. The most successful touring cars of the sixties were the Jaguar Mk II 3.8, the Austin Mini Cooper S, the Ford Cortina Lotus, the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and various Fiat 600-based Fiat Abarths, amongst others.

What a great read. I stumbled across this thread when googling GTR Skyline.

But where's the next review? And I'd love to read what you say about the GTR's in the Aussie touring cars.

Factory-entered Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase III driven solo into fifth outright at the 1971 Bathurst 500. Falcons filled five of the first six places at Bathurst that year

Faithful replica of Barry Sharp's 1971 Falcon XY GT (non HO) which surprised many with its early success when raced against the then-current Phase II Falcon GT-HOs before Phase III release. The GT was sponsored by dealer Jack Brabham Ford

Famous Oz motorsports identity 'Stormin Norman' Beechey won the 1970 ATCC (Australian Touring Car Championship) in this 1969 Holden (HT model) Monaro GTS 350. First aussie car to win the ATCC against the many exotic Trans-Am imports from the US, hence Norm's little 'Trans Oz' signature to rile the opposition!

Two pics pic of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 racer that helped Bob Jane to ATCC wins in 1971 with the 427, and again in 1972 in 350 form after the big engine was banned. One of two genuine ZL1s bought new by Jane specifically for racing, this one with manual transmission for circuits and another automatic for drags. This historic car is estimated to be worth over a million dollars, so apologies for not being able to get a clear pic as the car was a veritable magnet for onlookers

You can watch a youtube of the Jane Camaro in action > here <
