Sorry I was thinking engines and transmission and disk brakes and independant suspension and DeDion tubes etc etc .

Thinging the 20/30s was the "wheel" - even with a smiley - is a bit too cheeky.

MATERIALS are what has made the difference in the last 20 years. We now have more alloys availabel to make the best choice for the task. Back then many great ideas were dropped just because the mettalurgy wasn't there for it to workable.

But the Dodge was street legal, available to the general public (a real production car) and affordable... and didn't have a supercharger and/or nitrous oxide. And ran that 4.2 sec time on '60s tires.

C'mon... at $850,000 not only is the car you posted ridiculously overpriced, but it certainly is an exotic and should not be compared to cars which obviously don't have extreme, extensively reworked engines.

The Dauer was also street legal.

The comment was more like a joke!

The average person was able to afford a '62 Max Wedge Mopar. For that Dauer thing, it would take the average person about 5 lifetimes (at an earnings of about $50,000/year) to afford buying it (maybe even just renting it).

Let me make $850,000 worth of modifications to the Mopar and then we'll see which car gets to 60 mph faster! For that much money, I could probably buy a rocket engine and put it in the Dodge!

I dunno........a Hennessey Venom could give the Dauer a run for its money (especially with 1.1 seconds better 0-60, and the world quarter mile record at around 8.75 seconds)

Yes, i know, Hennessey is not exactly known for making you feel at home. You still have to admit, what they do to the viper is incredible!

....Russia? What the f.. You're telling me that you up and forgot Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Masarati's, and all those other legendary cars that make Italy up there with the best car makers in the world..?

I'll go with Germans, with the Italians and Japanese taking a close second and third.
