MSD makes great performing systems, although I prefer to not have that ugly box hangin around my engine compartment (which is why I use the Pertronix system, hides in the distributor cap so nobody's the wiser). Basically the point is that it can deliver a hotter spark with more precise timing than the stock system, so it can in theory promote a more complete combustion and allow you to really dial in your ignition timing for more power.
