Methinks you'll find that the Hummer has significantly better off road capabilities than something like a Suburban.

But other than that, you haven't really proven your point.

well it is true. The Hummer H2 uses the exact same underpinnings as a Chevy Tahoe and some componets from the Chevy Suburban, so really it sucks at off roading. all it is really good for is guzzling gas.

its very easy to come up with a reason to hate the hummer-i dont even need specs, the fact that 9/10 hummer H2's are used by petite moms to drop of cindy and aj at school on a daily basis is pretty pathetic
Don't bother me, I'm probably working while posting...

    Spot on!!

just like the mums driving Porsche Cannyans in my city! if i was a parent driving a porsche 911 park behind one of those while dropping my kids off, i'll go to the nearest Ferrari or Lambo dealer to trade it in!

this is true, but i doesn't automatically mean it drives bad. They have probably changed almost all the suspension settings, giving it a very different handling (even worse) and more offroad ability... (i have seen H2's climbing the same mountains as trucks and 4x4's that (had) entered the Paris-Dakar rally, at the nearby offroad track, without visible problems...)

I have had a ride in one once.the owner had done almost 50000 kilometres in it.When i asked her (yes ,a women again !) how it was offroad, she said she had never tried it what is the point of a Hummer then....The H1 and the HMMWV made atleast a little sense, but this absolutely doesn't.

I wonder by the way, why do women drive more SUV's as men ?I've notied it in my town too sometimes..

yeah that pissess me off too, it is just not H2s but SUVS in general, when i'm gettign dropped off at school, 9/10 cars dropping off kids are SUVS, hell I even see a Ford F-350 superduty dropping off a schoolgirl. give me a break.

I personally think that people view SUVS as oversized station wagons, so thats why they are mis used (just what I think though, it could be diffrent.)
but these SUVS are what SUVs should be.
    CHEVY BLAZER ZR2

Well, lets see, it is 2 door only, available with a rugged suspension stance, offroad spec suspension, skid plates, and off road tires. and mow lets look in the interior.

do you see a DVD player, a foot masssager, or any other luxary amities that you see in SUVS like the exploder? NO!
and that's the way it should be. I like the idea that it is also really designed to carry 2 passangers, no kids AND I LIKE IT. it is strip down and meant for off roading only and it is the way it should be.
    MITSUBISHI MONTERO

This is another idea of an SUV, sure it is not the most beautiful thing in the world, but it aced all of Consumer Reports' and Car And Driver's off road tests and is one of the best off roaders that money can buy.
sure there are a few luxary amities, but it offroads like a champ.
    JEEP WRANGLER

it is the best factory spec off road vehicle on the market (exempt the Hummer H1) and it is bar bones off roading. all SUVS should be like the Wrangler.

not real luxarious, and rear leg room is tight. that's the way it's supposed to be.
AHH WHAT THE HELL, THE WHOLE JEEP LINE

all have pretty much the luxary amities of a late Ford Escort. and are kick ass when it comes to the off roading and are top rated for off road capability
NOTE: I would of nominated the Hummer H1 but I think that they should not be made for civilians, justt keep them in the military.
SUVS THAT SHOULDN'T BE CONSIDERED SUVS
    FORD EXPLORER(EXPLODER)

    piece of shit.
it flunked Consumer Reports' off road tests, and is the lowest rated for off road ability.

leave this shit to BMW ok?
too luxerious, and I always see it taking kids to school BIG THUMBS DOWN
    WHOLE GMC LINE
If a concert hall can have an acusticlly tuned interior, if a Bentley can have a TV, if Bill Gates' mansion can have dual zone climate control, why not your SUV? BECAUSE IT IS A GODAMNED CAR!
are low rated for off road ability, have some truck like things, but hey, little jimmy can watch Aristicats in a acustically tuned interior!
GOD, I should give Gil Grissom a Bimmer, clump all the GMCS up and put them on fire.
    HUMMER H2

has the abs and pecs but underneth it is just a Tahoe that sucks at off roading. The axles are set too low limiting it's ride height and it's off road capability sucks out loud, I saw a video of a H2 going over (not even tretcherous) rocks and it's axle split. need me say more?
but hey, jimmy and cindy can get to school in style!
so what if it only gets 9 MPG!
take the H2 and go shove it.

A friends of mine has a early 90's Wrangler. Scary. As. Hell. Drove it on the interstate, and bout crapped myself. Has good off road capabilities, light but it was a four so not much grunt. Really rugged tho, great to offroad with no roof and doors. I know Hummers have offroad skills, just not like the old ones. I think theres 2 kinds of offroad 1) rock crawlers. they can do it, just not fast or pretty, like the H2. 2) baja-like trucks. The H1, is kinda like this lots of suspension travel, powerful and light enough to jump. I would never jump an H2.

If I wanted to go off-road, I wouldn't buy an SUV, but a vehicle that is specifically designed to go off-road. The Wrangler is a good example, but has a slight image problem, and is dreadful on the road. The Landrover Defender, may not be the best thing to drive on the road, but it is very cool and generally looks at home in the rough stuff.

My question to all of you has to be, why do you care so much what other people choose to do with their money? They obviously thought, for whatever reason, that a large truck would be ideal for their family situation. Even if they don't necessarily need it, who are you to tell them they shouldn't have bought it? Could most people get by with a large sedan or wagon? Probably. But until you pay for their gas and insurance, you don't get any say in what they buy.

And the whole arguement that people don't take them offroad is completely pointless. How many Porsche, Corvette, Lotus, Ferrari, and Lamborghini owners track their cars regularly? It's probably in the same range as people who take their trucks offroading. Yet I don't see anyone working to banish the 911 from existence.
