9 people, 5 seats. What to do?

NEWHALL, Calif. -- A woman was arrested after the California Highway Patrol officer who pulled her car over found nine people crammed inside, including two children in the trunk.

"I have never heard of this," said Officer Wendy Hahn. "There was no room left in the car, so she puts two of the kids in the trunk. We're trying to get people to buckle up, and this is what we find."

Lavern Dunlap, 35, of Glendora, was pulled over about 8 p.m. Friday after another driver reported seeing a woman closing the trunk of her Toyota Corolla with two children inside as the vehicle sat parked on a shoulder.

Dunlap told the officer she was heading to her sister's house in Palmdale, about a 60-mile trip.

The officer discovered a 15-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl in the trunk, four children in the back seat, an adult in the front passenger seat with a child on her lap and Dunlap behind the wheel. No one was wearing a seat belt, she said.

Dunlap was booked on suspicion of child cruelty and was released. She is scheduled to appear next month in court.

when my bro wa sa junior, we had to park at an overflow lot every day about 500 yards down the road. rather than walking, a lot of seniors would pull in and give people rides down to school. once we had 11 people in a 5 seet ford explorer and 7 in a sedan. this was very common. no1 ever rode in sedan truks tho, and it was a short ride.

This is more common than you'd think.

I used to live in Alice Spring, The Northern Territory (Look for it on a Map of Australia. HINT: In the middle) and because of the long distances to anywhere else and the rather lax laws regarding driver ed, many people had 15 or more in Landcruisers.

They made a law saying that if you were going to carry people in the back of your ute, you had to put a cage on it.

ive had to take 6 drunks home in my datsun one night, 4 on the back seat, one in the passenger and one in the boot. I knew it was heaps risky but two of these guys were goin to drive the others home smashed... i think i did the lesser of two evils there.

i remember getting pulled over once while my buddy was driving. I had shotgun and there were 3 big dudes in the back seat of a civic si and bcuz we were already cramped the drunk dude was in the trunk. long story short one of my friends ended up in jail and the cops freaked out when they found out someone was in the trunk.. needless to say the guy in the trunk got shotgun the rest of the way home.

You know that the world record is something around 16 people in Maluch (Fiat 126p). And it was still going on a public road? Imagine that (they were no midgets). For those of you who don't know it, Fiat is the smaler one .

We had 10 people in my friend's '93-ish Civic CX hatchback. We tried goin up a steep hill....got stuck half way. And just to be an ass the driver had the heat on full blast. This was especailly bad given it was a summer night.

me and some friends used to cram ourselves in one car back in the days because that one guy was the only one who had one. people in the street would be really scared when the guy in the trunk moaned and asked for help.
